Nicola Hanlon – Information Resource Assistant

I am pleased to advise that Nicola Hanlon is the second Information Resource Assistant to start work with the Library Support Servicesteam. Nicola’s first day will be Monday 9 July.

Nicola has been living in Nelson and is in the process of moving down to Christchurch.

Nicola worked as a Library Assistant and then Assistant Librarian from 2003-2011 at the Library of Dundalk Institute of Technology, Dundalk, Ireland.
During this time Nicola completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies. Nicola has work within a similar team to ours learning the wide range of tasks associated with acquisition, cataloguing, serials and a research repository.

Nicola will be based with the Interloans team for the duration of her contract and Sue Thompson will be guiding her through our interloans processes.

I will be bringing Ali Beken and Nicola to the libraries on Monday 9 July in the afternoon to ensure they know where all of our library spaces are what services are available to them on the Ilam campus.

Repairs 2012 – Monographs and Serials

The Resource Discovery Team are taking over the responsibility for the Monograph and Serial repairs being sent offsite. The new process has been added to the Wiki “How To” pages under the Lending heading. As this is a new process I would appreciate feedback over the next couple of months. Edits to the wiki will then be made and the process will be confirmed.

Please take the time to read the new process. The main change is that a new item status of X has been created and is to be used for all repairs.

The budget allocation for this year is being spent mainly on repairs instead of binding as there were many items damaged in the earthquakes. Later in the year the binding will be completed for the high priority items which have been identified by Coral and Jill. Please do not send any serials which requiuire binding to LSS at this time.

Please direct any questions or feedback to Joan Simpson.

Vacancies – Information Resources Assistants – Fixed term

Approval has been given to recruit two full time Information Resources Assistants (Band 2) on fixed term contracts until 22 Decmeber 2012. Applications for these vacancies will close on Tuesday 29 May. These staff will report to me and will be based at the Dovedale campus. The new staff are required to assist with the additional work created by the CONZUL Storage project and the clearing of Level 3 in the Central Library. An IRA position would be an opportunity for you to gain professional development with the Library Support Services team. If you are interested in one of these vacancies please discuss the idea with your Manager before applying. The vacancies will be advertised on the UC Website (by the end of the week), Jobseek and LIANZA.

Access to Levels in Central

Please note that it has taken the contractors longer than first estimated to complete the work on level 11. They are now not expecting to hand the level back to the library until June. The additional planning, drawings and sourcing of materials for level 11 should not mean that the rest of the timeframe is delayed as the majority of the planning work for level 11 is now duplicated for each level below and all ordering of parts etc ha

Staff are still collecting requests on a twice daily basis.
