FYI Overnight there has been a large hot water leak in the northwest corner of the James Hight Building. The new seminar room and about half of the lounge on level 2 was under water.
Cafe 1894 on level 1 has also been affected. We have restricted seating today and additional noise of water vacuum cleaners and fans running to clean up the mess.
CEPS have installed a fast back binder in the Central library. There are 3 sizes of binding strip for A4 paper depending on the number of sheets to be bound. It is self service and it is free. CEPS will provide the binding strips. Depending on the popularlity of the binder CEPS will considering providing additional binders into other libraries.

An advert will go on to the UC vacancy site today or Monday advertising for an Library Assistant AYO. Elva Chan’s resignation created this vacancy though the hours have been slightly changed. If you know of anyone interested in working for UC Libraries then please let them know about the vacancy.
A flow diagram has been addded to the Borrowing page of the library website. It aims to describe the process of borrowing an item. Searching, requesting, renewing etc. It may be helpful to explain the process to some borrowers. Joan Simpson
Elva’ has worked for the Central Library as a AYO Library Assistant. Sadly for us Elva has resigned, her last day with the Central team will be Sunday evening 4 March. Elva has accepted a flight attendant position with Virgin Australia. The time between Elva being offered the position and the start date for her training has been just one week.
We wish Elva success through her training period and I am sure we will all be pleased to have Elva greet us when we board one of the planes she works on.

From Wednesday 7 March until further notice level 10 of the Central Library will become “staff only access”. The call range on this floor is BX – DS 480.999. The shelving and books are staying in place and there will be plastic wrap used as protection.
Crack injection work will begin on the floor of level 11, which is also the ceiling of level 10. There will also be work completed in relation to the pipe work for the new radiators on Level 10 at this time.
Please encourage staff and students to place a request for any item which is on Level 10.
Hi all
Just a few notes to keep you all in the loop.
Level 11 is closed. All books have been moved to level 7 and the shelving on level 11 is being dismantled. Level 7 is a staff only floor most of the time but even staff will be restricted at some times. In the catalogue all items A-BX show that the borrower needs to “request from temporary storage” this means it is on level 7.
The South side of the building has the new windows installed and they are moving around to the north side. The contractors are trying to complete as much of the outside work as possible whilst the weather is fine. They are working on one level at a time. However they may also take the opportunity to complete work down the building. The contractors have installed swing bridges which are platforms / cages which move up and down the building. It can be a bit off putting to be working at a window and then have contractors move down the building or even worse stop outside your window and work for a couple of hours. All people in the James Hight Building just have to cope with this.
Level 4 is open
The library has many contractors and FM staff still working on levels 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 and the roof.
Friday 2 March is Jenny’s last day working for the University Libraries. There will be a rolling morning tea between 10.15 am and 10.45 am on Friday 2 March. Small contributions to the food would be appreciated. Central Library level 5 staffroom. At this time the staff lift is not available by next week it might be. You can walk the stairs by the workroom or the internal stairs. In order to get to level 5 via a lift you will need your canterbury card to stop at level 5 or travel to level 6 and walk down the stairs. The Central team look forward to seeing you there.
