Level 2 Central Library – update

Crown staff are working on Level 2 – scanning serials and packing them. These are serials which are available online. Crown staff are likely to be in the Central Library for the next 6-8 days. The information on the stock taken from the building each day is electronically sent back to Library IT the following day and our records are then updated. Most of the records are transferring as planned however there have been a few records to date which have needed additional work from the Collections and or Library IT team.

Staff have also started to move the Z’s up to level 4. Over the next 3 days U, V and Z classifications will be moved to level 4. Our casaul staff will then start to move some of the serials, which are not available online and which have low issue stats, to the warehouse. Again the records will be updated as soon as they possible can be after the stock has been moved.

If you are unable to find the location of any stock please get in touch with Janette Nicole, Tim O’Sullivan or Joan Simpson.

Library Warehouse

Work has started in the Library warehouse by staff from Crown to move stock into offsite storage. We also have some casual employees who are working with Tim O’Sullivan and Janette Nicole to barcode serials.

If these staff are working in an area that you need to access or if you need them to move out from the stacks then please politely let them know your needs. These staff are not aware of our normal routines to get bookstock out of the warehouse.

It is likely that staff will be working in the warehouse over the next three weeks as stock is moved out to Crown and moved in from Central.

If you have any concerns regarding the staff working in the warehouse then please let me know.

Central Library – Smoke Detectors to be changed

Funding has been provided to replace the smoke detectors in the James Hight Library Building, this involves replacing every smoke detector in the Library and up grading the fire alarm panel, this work will now start on Monday 23 November and take until December 20 to complete.

During this work the fire sprinkler will remain fully operational. One of the many advantages of the new system will be the monitoring of the dirt levels in the smoke detectors allowing them to be cleaned before they false alarm. The contactor carrying out this work will be FFP Fire Systems apart from the physical replacement of the smoke detectors most of the work will be around the riser ducts in the lift foyers and the piped services riser duct behind the west tower stair.

Please give any assistance required to these conctractors.
