Library Resources – Level 3 Central Library

We are considering moving the library print catalogues currently shelved on Level 3 to another location in Central Library or to the Warehouse. Please advise me by email or via the comments if you currently use these resources and would be inconvenienced by their move. A selection of titles which I am referring to are: National Union Catalog, British Museum of General Catalogue of Printed Books, Index of Manuscripts in the British Library, Times Index, Royal Catalogue of the Library of Royal Society etc. We will be moving the Z’s from Level 2 this summer to another floor in Central. I will need your comments by Thursday 12 November. Thanks Joan Simpson

ENNR451 – Engineering in Developing Communities

Students in the above course are raising funds to build a well or a latrine in a developing country for World Vision. They plan to run an op shop to raise the funds. This is a group assignment for ENNR451. The area in the Central Library at front under the Metro screen will be a collection point for clothing from students and staff, from 7 Sept – 15 Sept. Students will empty the collection box each day – however if it is full and requires emptying sooner we can email murni at mmo53@student.canterbury.ac.nz. The actual Op shop will be held on 16 Sept from 12-3 pm at he Engineering Quad or E16 if wet. Hopefully I will have no reason to regret my decision for the collection box to be inside the library. Students filming in stairwell over weekend

Sarah Farrell and Micah Ferris have been given permission to film in the stairwells at the Central Library. The film will form part of the Sarah’s assessment. They will start this weekend and may require to film the following weekend as well.
The actress will be moving up and down the stairs as quickly as she can. I have spoken to them regarding health and safety issues and advised that they are not able to block off any access for our other customers. They are aware that the noise level must be kept to a minimum. The filming will be mainly up at floor 11 and then between 2 and 4. In general they have been advised that they must not disrupt the library users or library staff. They have been asked to report in to the Supervisor at the start of each lot of filming.
Any issues regarding this pair please contact me.

Noise at Central on Tuesday morning, 4 August

On Tuesday morning 4 August at the Central Library on Level 2, we will be having some holes drilled into a concrete wall in order to instal a new artwork.

The carpenter is coming in early to get the work done however it may be after 8 am before he starts drilling as they have to set scaffolding up first. The drilling will not take long however it may be disruptive to some staff and customers. Please apologise to customers for any disruption the noise has caused to their use of the library.

The art work will form part of the exhibition by Stone Maka. The exhibition is called FAKA’AHU Contemporary Smoke – which Stone is installing on Tuesday afternoon.

The piece requiring the drill holes is being hung above the microfilm cabinets on Level 2. This area will be cordoned off until Stone has had a chance to instal the artwork and the scaffolding is removed.
