Professionals unleashed for refreshment and reflection (2nd posting)

The Library are looking for a colleague who is interested in being the contact person for any enquiries regarding opportunities for colleagues to come to Canterbury or for UC library staff to visit libraries within the Aoraki region. All PURR arrangements must be agreed to by the Library Managers.

Please discuss with your manager or team leader if you are interested in being involved with the co-ordination of this programme and if they support your involvement then please let me know.

I attended a meeting regarding PURR on 17 January however it would be good to hand this task on to someone else. Erin Kimber has previously taken on this role.

Professionals Unleashed for Refreshment and Reflection

What is PURR?
PURR is not an exchange programme, rather a partnership between the participant, their employing organisation, and the hosting organisation that gives individuals an opportunity to participate in a professional development and learning activity.

Originally, it was established as a programme of short-term visits between Christchurch libraries but now has been extended to all library professionals in the Aoraki region. The length of the visit is flexible and should be designed to suit individual and library needs; the visits can be for just one day or a week up to a maximum of two weeks. The idea is that length of the visit should provide the best opportunity for a range of library professionals including school librarians to participate in the programme.

Please get in touch with me if you have any queries. My first post on this in December noted the contact person needed to be a LIANZA member but this was incorrect. LIANZA hosts the information about PURR on the Aoraki page but the PURR scheme is separate from LIANZA.

Update on Library Store Facilities – A, B, E

The recent return of cartons from Crown Storage marked the end of offsite storage for UC Library items. Shuffling of resources in the Library Warehouse (Store A) and UC Warehouse (Store E) is required before all resources will be available through the catalogue.

The Law Basement (Store B) is still a construction site. When the remaining cartons from DA3 can be moved into the Law Basement they will be shelved and become available.

By late January all items should be in their final location.

An inventory of Bay 26 also known as Store E and the Law Basement (Store B) will be carried out as soon as staffing permits in the New Year.

We have attempted to reduce the number of split serial runs but this is not always possible.

Any queries please get in touch. Joan Simpson

Law Basement reinstatement – Store B

The project to reinstate the Law Basement has been brought forward to start on 14 October. Online Security will start collating the cartons from Monday 7 October. Therefore we will make all items in Store B temporarily unavailable from Sunday 6 October at 9 pm. The last request for Retrieval by Online Security will be completed on Monday 7 October. After this date if items are required an Interloans request will be required.
We will hold items at EPS which are currently out of the store B collection but have been returned to the Library. We will supply Online Security with a final list of these barcodes at the end of the project. The project is expected to take 15-19 working days. Please get in touch if you have any queries regarding this project. Joan Simpson

Copyright Survey – Part time Library Assistant staff required

Currently 6 staff within the LSS team have been collating data related to the use of copyright material within LEARN. To date the team have completed the data for 31 courses with another 98 courses still to complete. I would like to provide some additional resource to this project. Please let me know by email if you are interested in between 12-15 additional hrs per week. You will be working at a computer either in your existing workroom or within LSS. You will be paid at your current LA hrly rate. I will meet with those interested to outline the work and skills required and then confirm who is still interested. The LSS staff find the work interesting but extremely time consuming. I have linked the memo which was sent to SMT regarding this work for your information. The work will continue until the project is finished. Maybe 3-4 weeks. I would like responses by 5 pm Thursday 22 August.
