Law Basement – Store B requests

The majority of items from Store B (Law Basement) are now able to be retrieved. Nominated staff will be using the Online Database to request retrieval of the items. Library users should request a hold using the standard process. The EPS Library will be the delivery and pickup venue. ZLJ2 items ie those not individually barcode, will not be retrieved. We will use the Interloans team to provide these resources for Library users. Joan Simspon

Basic Excel Training opportunity – Library Staff

I will be offering staff training in the basic formatting features of excel. See the draft list of excel features that I plan to cover. I will not be covering the preparation of charts or functions. I will cover the basic formulas. This training is happening next week or the week after. Please check with your team leader and then add your name to either group A or group B. Maximum per group is 20.

Booking sheet

Prior to working in Libraries I taught at CPIT for 14 years, teaching the use of application software eg MS Excel and Word. The aim of the training is to increase your skills, so I will not be whizzing through and leaving anyone behind. I will be running two groups each with 3 x 1 hr sessions

Group A – 9 am – 10 am Wednesday 5 June, Thursday 6 June and Friday 7 June (need to be logged in and ready to start at 9 am)
Venue – The Den, Level 2, Central Library

Group B 9 am -10 am Monday 10 June, Tuesday 11 June and Wednesday 12 June. (need to be logged in and ready to start at 9 am)
Venue – The Den, Level 2, Central Library

We will be using training logins so that there is no risk of corrupting your staff profiles.

The training will be 3 x 1 hr sessions so that you have the opportunity to practice and not be overwhelmed by the amount of information in any one session. I will be demonstrating using the data show and getting you to follow along. You will need to write your own notes so that you remember how to repeat the sequences when using excel back in the workroom.

Get in touch if you have any queries prior to the sessions. Joan Simpson

Store B – Law Basement – update

The team packing the Library items in the Law basement have packed 5000 cartons to date which means the project is approx 70% through. The pallets are now being taken to Online Security where the contents will be scanned again before the data is live and the items will be able to be retrieved again. I will update when Online have all the barcode data available.

Store B Law Basement

A reminder that from today there is no access to the Law Basement – Store B.
As a temporary process requests are not possible. Once all items from the basement are moved to the new location then requests will be turned back on – 2-3 weeks. Requesting titles which have not been barcoded will not be possible eg zlj2 items. If UC cannot supply the item then please ask the library user to complete an interloan request.

Please send items returned for Store B – Law Basement to the Central Library.

Law Basement – Store B – to be packed up

The Law Basement pack up project will now start on Monday 29 April.

Friday 26 April will be the last morning for retrievals. The items will be packed however they will not leave the campus until all details regarding insurance and the value of the collection have been agreed on by the insurers. We hope this will not take more than week. The items currently in the Law Basement Store B will not be available until they have been scanned in by Online. If library users require an item and we cannot deliver it within an acceptable timeframe for the borrower then You will need to arrange an interloan for the item.

Time frame The pack up is estimated to take 10 days.
Hawkins are aiming for 4-6 months before the basement can be reshelved which really means the remainder of the academic year.

Contract Allied Pickfords have the contract to pack and they are working with Online who will be storing the items

Database to retrieve As Online is a new operator for UC, Library E-services will be setting up access to the Online database etc so that retrievals can be placed.
Dates for training are yet to be set up. The database appeared to be a user friendly experience. Retrieved items will be delivered to the Central Library and dispersed from there so if you are advising a borrower they would get the item sooner if they made Central the pick up point.

Returns for Store B – to be sent to Central Please collect the returned items which should go to the Law Basement at Central. If I can get them into the correct sequence as the teams pack I will. Otherwise they will be added to the collection separately.

Project Contact If you have queries regarding this project please refer them to me. There should be no direct contact with Allied. I need to direct all queries through the Hawkins staff member Frank Garthwaite.

Physical Geography – The Basics – E Book

The above e-book has reached the maximum number of days borrowed for our yearly sub which is 325 days. This is a popular book which is great but we cannot renew this version until September. We have now purchased a second copy of this textbook. E textbooks can only have 3 consecutive borrowers. So students have to wait until the first 3 borrowers have had their day with the book. COme September we will have two copies of the book available – which means 6 consecutive borrowers. Any queries please contact me. Joan Simpson

Sign In / Out required in Library Warehouse

From Monday 15, all staff working in the Library Warehouse will be expected to sign in and out of the premises. This change in practice is to improve our health and safety practices in relation to staff working in remote locations. I have advised the UC warehouse staff that for the crate deliveries signing in is not required. However if their work inolves being in the building longer than 5 minutes they must sign in. Please complete the forms as required when you are in the Library Warehouse.
