DPI tip for February 2022

Kia ora koutou

Working from home is no longer new to us and most would have designated a spot as “the working space”.

Here is a brief checklist for your home workstation:

Your chair: ideally an office chair, if not be creative in adjusting the height, a cushion may be good to sit on or support your back.

Your feet: ensure your feet are flat on the floor, if not you may improvise something as your foot rest.

Your screen: either a laptop or desktop, position the top of your screen at about eye level and about an arm’s length away from you.

Your eyes: a break away from the screen is good. Eye yoga or the like is recommended. Or the 20/20/20 rule, after 20 minutes on screen, give your eyes a 20 second break by looking at something 20 feet away!

Your mouse & keyboard: it is recommended to have a separate mouse and keyboard if you use a laptop.

Your breaks: take regular breaks, keep up your hydration and physical movements.

Here is the video on how to set up your desk but you might have to change it to suit your home environment.

Do discuss with your manager if you need further support.

Visit to Archives New Zealand – photos

We all had a wonderful visit not too long ago. I really envy their purpose built building plus lots of interesting materials they brought out for us to view.

For example:

The Probait of John Macmillan Brown, Sunnyside case book form 1913, the details of court judgement about divorce files etc.

Check out the photos here.

Library Survey Update – Week 2

Kia ora koutou

As of this minute we have had 443 responses!

This week staff have been going around with iPads inviting students to participate in the survey. So feel free to invite more students to engage with our survey. You may also add the survey link to your signature as a way of reaching out to more students. The link to the instruction: K:\LIBR-Library\Projects\2019-Survey-Project\Email-Signature-instructions.docx

In the survey we asked “How can the library better support you?”
Here are some of the responses:

More booths, want more group work space
More high demand loan books
Beds!
More seats for exam periods
Tea all term rather just during exams
Enforcement of quietness in quiet spaces
Just simply doing what you are doing now is more than enough support

The few of us attended the Admin Plus Professional Development Day 2019 (yesterday). We had a fabulous time – our keynote speakers were like stand up comedians, great food and so much laughter throughout the day! Not to mention great prizes to give away including IPAD, leather adjustable chair, etc

But do not feel you are left out, here is something for you:
