Copyright recording

Rachael MacGregor (Information & Records Management), Anton and I recently recorded a copyright presentation for library staff.  You can watch the replay here (it starts a  little into the presentation) :

Getting ebooks on interloan

Just a reminder we can’t generally interloan entire ebooks (although a small U.S, group overseas has publisher agreement to do this, and limited ebook lending options like the Internet Archive’s Open Library exist).

Most of the time, we either purchase outright an ebook a patron needs, or arrange access in some other way (short-term loan), via Acquisitions, rather than Interloans.

You can transfer any Asklive queries to the Interloans queue if we’re there, or call us on 3693399.

Interloans while we’re in lockdown

While we’re in lockdown, interloans (Chris, Glenna, Mariko, Fiona, Wendy and Sue) will still be offering our service to staff and students.   Please continue to encourage them to place requests, with the caveat that physical loans (where an e-book option doesn’t exist for us to purchase instead) aren’t possible right now.

We’re answering phones and email too, so try us on interloans@libr.canterbury.ac.nz or 369 3399

Covid-19 queries

UC Protect provide the following guidance if anyone reports Covid-19 symptoms or being in contact with someone who has or is being tested for Covid-19 :

1) Stay isolated from others

2) Ring Healthline on +0800 358 5453

3) If a student let your College know, or if staff, your manager

4) Advise UC Protect at ucprotect@canterbury.ac.nz

5) Provide name and student ID for follow-up

You can find updates for students here : https://www.canterbury.ac.nz/support/emergency/alerts/details/index.html?id=8

Handwashing etiquette

Poor hand washing is a source for cross-contamination and the spread of illness, and it’s recommended to use separate sinks for handwashing and cleaning dishes.  You’ll see the centre sink in the Puaka Level 5 tearoom is marked for handwashing only, and the usual guideline about washing for 20 seconds applies.

Cleaning Services have also installed an additional paper towel dispenser, to be replenished daily along with the tea towels.

Echo360 password prompt

There is a known problem causing some mac users to be prompted with a “Enter your LMS/VLE email or Echo360 login email if you have one” message when accessing Echo360 via their course page.

If this happens, please ask for their uclive email address, and provide to E-learning support, who can reset their details so they’re logging in automatically as per normal.   They do need to clear their cache before trying again.

Echo360 and LEARN

A recent AskLive query from a lecturer asked why their Echo360 recording wasn’t available in LEARN.    We’ve just checked with e-Learning support, who handle requests for recording lectures from lecturers.  The responsibility for adding links of recordings to LEARN lies with the lecturer, although e-learning can provide support if needed.

Error message accessing interloans

Some patrons are receiving an error message when attempting to log into their interloan account.

Clearing cache and cookies, or using a different browser may resolve the problem.  We’re still interested in the error ID number patrons receive, so we can report it as it may have been caused by a security change OCLC made recently.

Patrons can get in touch on extn 93399/3693399, or interloans@libr.canterbury.ac.nz, or via Asklive

Thanks, Sue
