Patrons aren’t always aware if they just require a book chapter, they can request that, rather than a whole book on interloan. This will be much faster and often arrive as PDFs – it just requires them specifying chapter titles and pagination on the request form.

Interloan system – update on migration from VDX to WorldShare ILL via Tipasa
Progress since last update 27th September
- Four CONZUL libraries are part of the Tipasa migration project (Waikato, AUT, Otago and UC)
- The OCLC kick-off implementation meeting happened last week
- Separate meetings for authentication are being arranged with ITS
- Information & Records Management are part of the conversation looking at the management of patron information and data
- Interloans staff training sessions have been booked along with configuration sessions and will be happening October-November
Why are we migrating?
- VDX has reached its end of life and will no longer be supported
- Additional features and functionality will be added over time
- All NZ libraries will be moving to WorldShare ILL
What you need to know
- Library News item
- All current users of VDX (current Interloans system) have been notified of our plans to move to Tipasa in December
- We hope to provide library staff with a preview of Tipasa approximately late November
- We will provide further publicity of the changes to students and staff as the project progresses
- Go live is currently scheduled for 4th December
- There will be no migration of request data – current NZ requests will be aged/completed in VDX
- There is the opportunity to look at our workflows as part of this migration project including Interloans and Distance services
What you need to do
- Stay tuned for updates
- Participate in any conversations about workflows and any opportunities we consider to improve processes, etc

Interloan system changing at the end of 2018
Interloans will be moving to a new Interloan system in December 2018, WorldShare ILL via Tipasa. The old one, VDX is no longer supported and all NZ libraries are moving to WorldShare ILL.
We aim for this transition to be as smooth as possible, and the services we provide will remain the same. Any outstanding requests patrons have during the transition period will be actioned in the old system, alongside any new requests they make in Tipasa. We’ve been advised patrons will have access to their old interloans account for at least 2019, but if you have anyone with concerns, just let them know to get in touch on interloans@libr.canterbury.ac.nz, or DDI 33693399 (or extn 93399).
Interloans patron interface still inaccessible
Hi all,
Students and staff are still unable to either make requests or view progress in their Interloans accounts. However interloans staff do have access and can place requests on behalf of requestors if you’re fielding anxious queries! These are best sent to interloans@libr.canterbury.ac.nz
Cheers, Sue in Interloans
Thanks from Sue
Interloans and 50 item max limit
Postgrads and staff are entitled to 50 items max out on Horizon (undergrads limit is 25). Interloans are extra to this quota – there is no official limit for interloans. However, Horizon doesn’t distinguish between UC books and interloans, so staff at the desk have to manually override the ‘max limit’ block to check these out.
Patrons may face this problem when attempting to use the self-loan machines.
Interloans tip
For those helping students wanting to request interloans at the desk, we recommend connecting to the request form from the Interloans page using Firefox/Mozilla. Opening in IE causes problems as it won’t allow you to log out and log back in as a new user.
Interloans scanning
Kia ora – to anyone who scans articles for Interloans
Thanks for your help with doing this, it really does help us a lot.
I have updated our wiki guidelines for scanning items – the main update is that if possible we prefer books that are larger than A4, to be scanned one page to a scan. If text is reduced down too much, it can print out quite small.
If you find a book is too difficult to scan, we’re happy also for you to send it to us through the hampers to scan – cheers! Sue
Identifying gaps in the collection
Hi all
A list of titles requested on interloan for 2016, with the course code/department of the person requesting it, is available here :
K:\LIBR-Library\Info-Resources\Interloans\Interloans by department 2016.xlsx
This may help you identify any gaps we have in our collection.
Best, Sue Thompson
What do we want out of an interloans service?
Hi all
Interloans recently held a brainstorming session recently, involving library staff, and postgraduates. We wanted to know what is great, and not so great, about the service we provide. Feedback available here :
K:\LIBR-Library\Info-Resources\ILL-UC-brainstorm-feedback-2016.docx
We’d love to hear any other suggestions/gripes you either have or have heard from users of the service. Please send to sue.thompson@canterbury.ac.nz
Best, Sue
