Behind the scenes MB storage tour

Staff development session

4th July 11-12

Ever wondered what’s involved in protecting over $50M of treasured heritage collections? Always wanted to see what’s behind the scenes at MB? Threats from earthquakes, floods, fires, pests, human interference and something called ‘inherent vice’ must all be protected against so that we can pass our treasures on to the next generation. This means we need some pretty robust storage infrastructure, and we have been embarking on a long term programme of upgrades to our storage areas. If you haven’t been to the library warehouse for a while you may not recognise it!

For this session you’ll be taken on a behind the scenes tour to have a peek at some of the storage areas at MB, then over to the warehouse to admire our improved storage areas and hear about our future plans for improvement

These are some of the key messages that emerged from the Pacific Libraries Summit which was held in Fiji on Friday, 1 June 2018.

The vision for the Pacific Libraries Summit was to bring together library practitioners,

INELI-Oceania innovators, and representatives from NGOs and Governments across the Pacific to advocate for the role of public libraries and librarians in society and to inspire a vision and agreement for collaborative and sustainable development of public library services in the Pacific. This was the first such meeting ever held in the Pacific.

Come along and hear more about this initiative.

Staff Development Session……Social Sciences and Humanities Research Project

Several members of the LTR team are working on the Social Sciences & Humanities Research (SSHR) Project. The SSHR Project is based on a University of Minnesota Libraries (2006) study into the research behaviours of academic staff and postgraduate students in the social sciences and humanities. For us this translates to our College of Arts. The findings from the study will be used to develop our support for academics and postgraduate students.

The first project milestones have been met and the team is now ready to launch into the data collection phase of the project.

This session will outline what the project is about, will look at what we’ve learned, and will look at what comes next.
