Sophus Anti-Virus retiring message – action to take

If you receive the following message* on your PC, ICT Service Desk have asked that you send a service request email to them, together with the number of your computer, so that they can take the appropriate action. You can find the number of your computer by clicking ‘start’, ‘my computer’, then right click ‘properties’ and then click on ‘computer name.’ (The computer name shows under ‘full computer name’).

Here is the message:

* “Sophos Anti-Virus version 7 is nearing retirement. Sophos Anti-Virus 7 will be retired at the at the end of March 2011. Contact your systems administrator to let them know that they should upgrade to Sophos Endpoint Security and Control.”

Law Building Basement

This afternoon, Angela Davies was working in the Law Basement when she heard a high-pitched sound which continued for some time. She telephoned me to ask what to do and I advised her to leave the basement. Angela then rang Facilities Management who said that what she heard was some kind of alarm – something to do with gas, apparently.

*****FM have asked that no one go to the Law Basement this afternoon or tomorrow morning without telephoning FM first.******

The moral of the story is: if you are in the Basement and there is any kind of noise which you think might be an alarm – leave the basement immediately and telephone FM.

Printer problem

This afternoon both staff and students in the Law Library had a problem with the printers. An “access denied” message appeared and this related to printers in other places on campus – not just the ones in the Law Library. The staff printer started working later. I have reported the problem to the after-hours IT people who are looking into the problem. Caroline Anderson

IT now think the problem is fixed. If anyone still has the problem IT said that if they logout and login again this should make it work. Caroline Anderson
