Patrons won’t be able to access PDFs on their interloan account, or request new interloans this Monday and Tuesday (17th & 18th). The VDX interloans software all LCoNZ libraries use is being upgraded. We’re happy to take queries on extn 8722 or interloans@libr.canterbury.ac.nz, as staff will still be here.
The status of some requests as “Received” in a patrons Interloans Account, can be misleading when an item may only have been received by staff, not the patron. This is usually when we process books as “received” on the live interloan system, then pop them in the hampers, which often can take another day before actually being available for our patron.
We’ve investigated having this wording changed to “processing by library staff”, but have decided this may only cause more confusion where patrons may start to think they haven’t received an old request when they have. At any rate, OCLC now tell me we can’t change the wording anyway!
We rely on automatic hold notices due to the high request volumes, but we’ll try to send an extra email out to patrons when there may be a delay between a request showing as received and actually being available (eg branch pick ups).
The other option is to suggest patrons select Central Library as a pickup location – sending to branches generally takes an extra day,
There is a new link on the Communication wiki to examples of Mâori communications you may find useful in your work. You can even listen to a karakia and familiarize yourself with the LIANZA waiata.
We are searching for an interloan that has gone missing, after being put in the hamper from EPS to Central. If anyone has seen it, we’d be really grateful!

A few students lately have come to the desk asking staff to request an interloan for them. We’re always flexible if there is a particular problem, but in general we try to ask users to place their own interloan requests through the web form. It makes it easier for us to manage and also means the user can view their requests in their own account and monitor its’ progress.
Interloans are back in Central from tomorrow (Tuesday) so please return all interloans to there. We are in the process of having interloans itypes changed so that in-transit slips should automatically route back to Central now.
From next week the Interloans team (along with the rest of LSS) are moving back into James Hight. We’ll still be requesting books from you through your pull-lists, but we’ll select Central as our pickup from now on.
Store C theses normally go to the MacMillan Brown library for digitizing. Sometimes however, we request Store C theses for interloans (we’re still over at Education). We’ll try to include notes on any Store C request through Horizon so that you are alerted to the fact it’s requested for Education pickup.
