If a borrower shows at the desk to collect a hold, and none is showing on their account, please always check the reference/interloans hold shelf. A number of times borrowers have been turned away without this shelf being checked. Reference interloans and printed articles in envelopes will not show on a borrowers record. Borrowers are told to ask at the lending desk for these, but don’t always remember to explain their interloan will be on a different shelf.

Interloans
Books on interloans will be coming through your hampers for your hold shelf, with a “please edit due date to…” note attached. All books can be checked in as usual to generate the hold slip, and placed on the shelf. When issuing to borrowers, please edit the due date to the date on the note at the front of the book. This is to avoid the Horizon-generated due date not matching the due date set by the library who supplied us the interloan.
Also, we are trying to locate a microfiche interloan, “Generations of Trauma” – for borrower Claudia Schippering. If anyone has seen this, please pop back in the hampers for Interloans.
Internal envelope for Patrick Turner
A white internal envelope for Patrick Turner, intended for the Central Library’s hold shelf, has gone missing. If anyone knows of the whereabouts of this, please could you let us know in Interloans? Thanks, Sue Thompson
Interloans not being issued
Hi all
Just a reminder that all interloans should be ‘checked in’ when they arrive at your library – then placed on the hold shelf once the hold slip is generated. We are finding some books are coming back to us without being issued.
Interloans on hold shelves
Some interloans have been returned to us without ever been issued, or put on the hold shelf. We also have one interloan, “Inter-galactic Playground” that was never put on the hold shelf, although the hold was generated through Horizon. This book is now missing and I’m trying to find it. Please make sure all interloans are checked in Horizon and either put in hampers or the hold shelf as appropriate, thanks.
Interloans changes
Interloans have been investigating ways to make interloans more efficient and easier for users. Interloans will soon start issuing at the desk for 28 days rather than 14 days. Interloans will go into the holds shelf for up to 14 days. Borrowers will be sent text alerts for Interloans holds along with the other Horizon notices. At seven days another reminder will go out saying they have 5 days to pick up the item or it will be return to the owning library. When interloans expire on the holds shelf on the 15th day they can be sent back to LSS for return.
Supply will start again on 29 August. Items will be issued for 6 weeks, and will be subject to recall after 3 weeks. Currently interloans are not recalled. More details about this later.
Change to interloans in the hampers
Hi all
Most interloans that arrive in your library via the hampers are barcoded, and can be checked in to generate hold slips. However, reference-only items and hard copy articles (in envelopes) won’t have barcodes attached. When these arrive in the hampers, please just put them straight onto your hold shelves. We’ll take care of notifying users at our end.
Thanks
Sue Thompson
Interloans wrappers running low
Hi all in the branches,
You may start to notice some interloans on your hold shelves that won’t have wrappers around them. We’re running low but have ordered more. Hopefully this doesn’t confuse.
On a different tangent, thanks to everyone who showered me with gifts / advice / baked goods and kind words – last day of work today with a baby on the way! I’ll see you all again soon,
Sue T.
Blue satchels for Interloans
If any branch libraries have blue satchels to spare for interloans, we’d appreciate you sending them to us. Thanks,
Thanks for my baby shower
Just wanted to say thanks to all the people who gave me gifts at my baby shower yesterday – I felt very special!
