Comics: Alive on the Inside!!
Display in the Central Library
10th – 16th August – By the Internal Stair case
(3D Augmented Reality MagicBook)
This exhibit demonstrates how a normal comic book can be transformed into a MagicBook: a new type of reading experience made possible through the use of Augmented Reality (AR) technology. Augmented Reality enhances our view of the world by adding 3D computer graphics into the real environment around us, so that the real and virtual images are blended together.
In the AR MagicBook, 3D virtual scenes from the story appear to pop out of the real pages of the comic book, bringing the characters to life. This is achieved through a combination of creative illustration, 3D modelling, software programming and computer hardware.
This is to let you know that at 4.00pm today, The Lounge area on Level 2 of the Central Library, will be used for the opening of our Artist in Residence at Macmillan Brown Library, exhibition.
The area will be roped off from approx 3.00pm and signs will be displayed advising students that they will need to vacate the area.
Drinks and nibbles for all persons invited, will be served in the end part of the lounge, then all will be invited to mingle amongst Stone’s works.
If you have not had the opportunity to take a look the exhibition it will be here until 21 August. Also don’t miss his large tapa, hanging by the microfilm cabinets on Level 2.
Thanks
Liz
Hi
This is a reminder to all Library staff the the applications for the Rosalind Patrick Development Awards close at 5.00pm Thursday the 23rd of July.
The Rosalind Patrick Professional Development Award was established in 2002, in memory of Rosalind Patrick who was employed in the University of Canterbury Library from 1980 to 2002. An award is given each year to a member or members of the University of Canterbury Library staff, to undertake some form of professional library development. This was a cause dear to Rosalind’s heart and Dr Brent Layton, Rosalind’s partner. Dr Layton was keen to see a fund for such a purpose set up in memory of Rosalind and her work at the University of Canterbury.
