Storage items

Further to Joan’s Counterculture post Transit items to Library Storage (19th Dec 2012)
Storage items

Please send warehouse items (zwj or zwb Store A) in a hamper direct to the Library Warehouse. They do not need to come to Central first.

Law Basement items (zlb or zlj Store B) should be placed in the EPS hamper. While the collection has been moved out of the Law Basement items are delivered to and picked up from EPS.

Crown Storage items (zoj or zob Store D) please place in the Central Library hamper.

University Warehouse bay 26 items (z26b or z26j Store E) please send these to Central Library in the hamper. There is no organised pickup or delivery for these even though the warehouse staff may or may not take them. Before being reshelved they need to be checked in at Central as there is no library computer in the UC warehouse.

Unfortunatley the checkin units do not distinguish between the various storage locations and gives only a “return to Storage” message. Generating a transit slip in a subsequent horizon checkin will show the relevant collection code.

Thanks in advance

Central library evacuation procedures

The camelot page http://wiki.canterbury.ac.nz/display/LIBRSTAFF/Central+Library+Evacuation+Procedure
outlining evacuation procedures for the James hight Building has been updated. This page outlines the procedures to be undertaken whenever the James Hight building the fire alarms sound.
If you are on one of the upper levels of the library in the event of an alarm please be prepared to uplift a paddle from the East lift bay and clear the floor. There are also new evacuation information signs throughout the library. null

Law Basement access

Jock (from Hawkins) mentioned to me today that he thought that there may have been some staff using the law basement and entering through the loading bay ramp and leaving the gate open (this may not of course be library staff.)
Those visiting the Law Basement should have had the Hawkins briefing and are required to sign in and wear high viz vest and hardhat which can obtained from the office inside Hawkins area. Daniel is the man currently on the door and he will respond to a knock. At the moment entry to the basement is via the lift but if that is not available then access can be down the ramp (either way sign in is essential.)

Library – Macmillan Brown Jill Durney
Library – EPS Jenny Owens
Library – College of Education Jane Agnew
Library – Support services Wendy Wu
Library – James Hight Tim O’Sullivan

We will be looking for someone to replace Jill when she leaves UC in May.
The first meeting for 2013 was on Friday 1st of March and the minutes will appear on the Health and Safety site in due course. https://intranet.canterbury.ac.nz/hr/healthsafety/committee_minutes/index.shtml Further meetings during the year are:
Friday 03 May 2013 10am – 11am Erskine 121
Friday 02 August 2013 10am – 11am Erskine 121
Friday 01 November 2013 10 am – 11am Erskine 121
UC Health and Safety offer training in health and safety and various related matters. The list of upcoming training opportunities is here: https://intranet.canterbury.ac.nz/hs/toolkit/04_info_train/index.shtmlPlease check and see what you may need as a refresher then talk through with your line manager.
Any form of accident or injury should have an event report form filled out and this is available on the H&S homepage: http://www.canterbury.ac.nz/hr/health_safety.shtml. Please note that a form should be filled out for any incident. In the unlikely event that what seems to be a minor incident turns into something serious and ACC becomes involved then a paper trail is important.
Coral and Anne have convened a task group to address the deficiencies noted in the library Health and Safety assessments last year it is hoped that by the end of May the library will achieve 100% compliance in Health and Safety. Committee members are Anne, Coral, Isabel, Wendy Wu, Joan and Tim O’Sullivan.

Trial Evacuation 11th March

The Evacuation today was trial evacuation. The first of two that have to be held every year in the James Hight Building. Evacuation was completed in 5 minutes 56 seconds which is a very good time.
Last week’s evacuation was not a trial but was caused by a leaky sprinkler head on level 11. At any time, if the alarm goes off it should be treated as a real emergency and an evacuation undertaken.

Warehouse changes

Over the last two weeks the Warehouse has had some work done in order to accomodate books from levels 3 and 4 of the Central Library.
There is a plan of the warehouse here: K:\buildings_equipment\Warehouse-Layout August 2012.docx
There are only two collections of un-catalogued material left in the warehouse, the Grimes Collection and the Colonial Blue books. The National Council of Churches collection is partially catalogued and items in this collection should have a note somewhere in the Bib or item record. Otherwise everything should be in three LC sequences (Serials sequence 1, Monographs sequence with some serials and the Horrie Brown (Australian Statistics)sequence). There is nothing (catalogued) left outside the sequences apart from two shelves of extra large items (which have a PAC note on them,) the NCC collection and the List and Index Series. There is also a shelf of what appears to be duplicate NZ yearbooks.
All other collections of uncatalogued material have been moved to DA03 and are in about 280 Crown boxes.
Everything in the warehouse should be on the catalogue now although many serials have no item level records
