Fire evacuation procedures

Thank you to all staff who assisted in the fire evacuation this morning. Our total time for the evacuation was 7.5 minutes. That is considered acceptable but we will try and do better next time.

Evacuation paddles
Please remember that if you are closest to a paddle when the alarm goes off please take one and follow the instructions for clearing the floor. After the area is cleared bring the paddle to the control point on level one and hang it on the hook.

Since the James Hight building is quite large there is no expectation that all the paddles will necessarily arrive but those on the staffed areas of level 5, 3 and 2 should almost always be collected as there is staff on those areas during office hours.

This morning three level 2 paddles were left behind. During a real emergency the paddles are a crucial source of information for the fire service. The more areas that are cleared on our way out means the less number of areas for the fire service to be concerned about before they get on with the real business.
No paddle routine should take more than a couple of minutes.

Extended Hours
During extended hours the paddle system is suspended although the staff on level two are expected to be vigilant for those on their way out of the building. The supervisor automatically assumes the role of the building warden and will go immediately after ringing 111 to the control point on level one to meet with Security and the fire Service.

Thanks

Lost Daleks

For the last few days there have been some Daleks on the Central Library loading Bay looking quite lost despite the label on them which says “Law Library”.
The warehouse staff will not move anything without a BIEMS request , no matter how well labelled, so please remember to put a BIEMS request in to have items moved between libraries.
Thanks.
I Have just added a BIEMS request for the Daleks.

Hampers in the packing room

If you are loading something out through by hampers in the packing room please remember to put a label on the hamper so that it is obvious where it is going. The only hampers without labels should be the empties. If there is no label on a hamper with items in it the truck will not up lift it and someone has to go to the trouble of finding out where it needs to go.
Thanks

Shutdown of Fire protection system

On Tuesday 25th November the fire protection system will be shut off to allow Chub to test the alarms. No alarms will operate or sound but the sprinkler system will still work.
In the event of an emergency please phone 111 and undertake to clear the building. This sort of shutdown is a regular yearly occurence and should be uneventful. I will be away that day so the acting building warden will be Angela Berry.

Mislaid DVD security strips

Some where in the Library is a box of 3M DCDII security strips for the DVD/ VCD collection. The carton, which should have a Library order number on it (146323), is about the size of a 5 ream A4 paper box. The box itself contains 13 smaller cartons, each containing 200 strips.
If anyone has seen it would you mind please letting me know.

AV project report

The AV project report from the last meeting is now on the “K” drive at K:\projects\Central_AV_38\AV Project meeting.doc
A couple of options were considered for the classification of DVDs but no firm decision on what to reccommend to LLT has yet been arrived at.
Comments on the contents of the report will be welcomed.
Thanks
