Project Update 5- Scanning and Uploading Bound Unreported Judgments to NZLII

Beth, Caroline, Wendy and Sue are continuing to do an amazing job on uploading decisions from the Employment Relations Authority (ERA) to NZLII here

We’ve just had notification from NZLII that this is now the 4th case law database to hit 10,000 decisions. These have all been loaded by UC staff since 2008 and our current project has uploaded a significant amount of these in the last few months.

Well done Beth, Caroline, Wendy and Sue!!!

For those interested it means we’ve been able to withdraw 31 volumes of ERA decisions from Level 7 and make these more widely available on NZLII.

TELSIG Done and (mostly) dusted

I wanted to pass on my thanks to everyone who helped our small committee (including our very own amazing Romy) make the TELSIG Forum such a success.

Thank-you for:

– driving vans

– the MB tour

– presenting (Jo, Caroline, Lydia, Erin, Nekerangi, Damian, Sue and Anton)

– hosting keynotes

– directing delegates

– help with cleaning whiteboards, laminating, carrying boxes, wrapping presents, directing people, technical support…

THANK-YOU!

TELSIG Forum – MONDAY and TUESDAY

The TELSIG Forum is finally here!

If you get any questions at the desk or in general or need to contact me as Forum Convener my cell phone is 021-188-1399.

The Forum is over in the Jack Mann Auditorium, please direct people over there on Monday. There will be large signs with the TELSIG logo.

This is an amazing chance to show off UC to our tertiary library colleagues from around New Zealand – I’d love your help in please making them feel welcome and in helping our small Committee to pull off a successful Forum!

Thanks

Theresa

Coming to TELSIG? – What you need to know

The TELSIG Forum 2016 is being held at the Jack Mann Auditorium next week!

Thank-you to all who have put their name forward to attend or have agreed to assist the Committee in order for us to successfully pull this off.

If you are attending as a delegate (for a whole day or a half day) we will have a name badge for you at the registration desk. Please pick this up at registration or in the meal breaks.

If you are attending as a delegate (for a session) we will have some name badges at the registration desk for you (these may not be in your name). We’d appreciate it if you wore these if you are joining us for morning tea, lunch or afternoon tea but are happy for you to just pop into a session without a name badge.

If you are joining us for a meal can you please let me know if you have any dietary requirements ASAP.

An online version of the handbook is now available. This contains all the information you will need to know about the Forum – including the final programme and full abstracts of all the presentations.

We are also using Event App for the Forum – if you would like an invitation to download and use this on your phone or tablet (it’s very cool – you can see the sessions and create your own personalised programme as well as follow the event Twitter feed #telsig16) let me know!

If you are a volunteer – I will email you details later in the week. We really appreciate your help.

Any questions please let me know
Theresa

Project Update 4 – Scanning and Uploading Bound Unreported Judgments to NZLII

Beth, Caroline, Wendy and Sue are doing an amazing job on uploading decisions from the Employment Relations Authority (ERA) to NZLII here.

So far they have loaded approximately 1000 decisions from the  Christchurch ERA for 2000 – 2006. Next Caroline and Sue will tackle the Wellington ERA decisions followed by ones from the Auckland ERA.

Beth has started uploading decisions from the Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal here

Amazing work!

Project Update – Scanning and Uploading Bound Unreported Judgments to NZLII

Work on this project has resumed.

Caroline, Beth and Wendy  will each be spending one afternoon working on this over the next 12 weeks as we aim to scan and upload a huge number of unreported Court and Tribunal judgments to NZLII.

At present they are working on uploading decisions from the Employment Relations Authority for 2002-2006 to NZLII here.

The benefits of doing this work mean:

1. We have freed up 7 bays of space on Level 7, this is a small contribution to the space needed for the Education move

2. We are making these judgments available to the NZ legal community on a free database. This in turn means they will get much more use than they have been on our shelves. They aren’t available on any of our subscription databases and can be very hard to track down if someone needed a copy.

Any questions please let me know.

Theresa

Project Update – Scanning and Uploading Bound Unreported Judgments to NZLII

The work on this project continues – we now have 268 volumes (of the original 588) to work through so are over half way through the withdrawals.

Less than half of these remaining will need to be scanned in their entirety (and most of those are from the Employment Tribunal – 101 volumes!). The majority require us to scan one or two judgments from a volume and we will then withdraw the whole volume.

Our small project group has grown to include Wendy Dowsett and Sue Lloyd who have been working with Beth and Caroline to scan our bound volumes of unreported judgments and who will then help to upload these to NZLII.

Caroline has started loading the older Employment Relations Authority decisions onto NZLII . Once this uploading is finished a near-complete run (2000-2016) will be on NZLII here.

TELSIG is coming!

This year UC is hosting the biennial TELSIG forum with the theme Creating Change and Shaping Success on July 4th and 5th.

Aurelia, Romy and I are all on the organising committee along with others from CPIT and Lincoln.

The Call for Submissions has just gone out and it would be great to have some people from our Library presenting on the amazing work we are doing to support the learning, teaching and research at UC.

More information here

If you’d like to attend think about including it in your PD&R discussion with your manager.

Any questions please ask Aurelia, Romy or I.

Thanks

Theresa

Project Update – Scanning and Uploading Bound Unreported Judgments to NZLII

Helen has asked that I give a project update on this ongoing work.

I am leading a small group to check our holdings of bound unreported Court and Tribunal judgments against NZLII.

Our aim is to scan and upload any judgments that are missing from NZLII to NZLII so that they are made more widely available for the New Zealand legal community. We will then withdraw the UC volumes to make space on Level 7.

To date we have withdrawn 205 volumes of the 588 that UC holds. This should free up 7-8 bays on Level 7 before the Education move.

Beth and Caroline will scanning the judgments that will be uploaded to NZLII in collaboration with the NZLII team at Otago.

Any questions please let me know

Thanks

Theresa
