the CHRISTMAS LUNCH

Kia ora koutou

It is now November [totally appropriate to break out the carols from now] and 18 sleeps until our annual Christmas lunch.

If you haven’t had a chance to RSVP can you please do this by Tuesday 17th November as we need to give the numbers to the UCSA next week. You should have received an Outlook invitation – if you haven’t please let me know.

More information can be found here: https://blogs.canterbury.ac.nz/counterculture/2020/10/13/the-christmas-lunch-2020/

We won’t be having awards this year but will be acknowledging events and our successes at the lunch.

The light lunch will be a buffet along the lines of what we’ve had in the past. If you’ve requested a vegetarian or allergy meal then this will be separate.

Any questions please let a Christmas elf know (Kim, Brian, Lydia, Jane A, Elizabeth or Theresa).

LLAW300 – Pacific Law feedback

Warm Pacific greetings.

Over the last couple of years a number of staff have been preparing for a new Pacific Law course including:

I was thrilled to get this email from Natalie Baird earlier this week. Lots of the work that Natalie mentions has involved a number of Library staff so it is appropriate for me to share and see how our work has helped students. Thank-you everyone for your help with this work.

Theresa

From Natalie Baird:

The inaugural running of LLAW300 Pacific Legal Studies has come to an end, and I am just doing the final marking of essays, course reflections etc. I wanted to thank you all for your help with the course. Our final session last week included a reflection and feedback on the course, and I am pleased to pass on the following:

  • Library session and resources: The students really enjoyed the Library session we had in week two of the course. Thanks Caroline! One student noted that she often thought back to that session throughout the course – especially in relation to thinking about things outside the orthodox doctrinal approach. Some students mentioned how useful the Pacific Law Subject Guide was and said that they used it a lot (hopefully you can see that through web statistics too?). One student said she spent quite a bit of time in the MB Library, and I think got assistance from you in seeking out resources for her essay (gender quotas in Pacific Parliaments). So, many thanks Caroline, and Theresa and Kim for helping set up the Guide.
  • Art Tour: Three students (out of a total of ten in the course) did the self-guided Pacific environmental art tour in week ten of the course. I was wrapped with this as this was the last “portfolio task” before they had to hand these in and I was worried that they would not have enough time to do it. I really enjoyed reading their reflections on the art too, so thank you Lydia for setting this up.

The course is not running in 2021, but I’ll be back in touch in 2022 when I hope to offer it again.

THE Christmas Lunch 2020

This year the Christmas elves have been hard at work organising THE CHRISTMAS LUNCH!!

This year our all Library Christmas lunch will be held on Friday 27th November 2020 at Haere-Roa (the UCSA building).

We are looking forward to joining together for a light lunch and a relaxing end to what has been a difficult year for us all.

This year we will not be doing any awards but will acknowledge our successes and work throughout the year during the lunch.

Today I will send you an Outlook invitation. Please reply to this if you are planning to attend and with any dietary requirements you have.

A few points to note

  • the Libraries will close at 12.30 on Friday 27th November
  • there will be a cash bar for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks (Eftpos or actual money accepted 🙂 )
  • Christmas theme dress-up/accessorising is encouraged

If you are not attending the Christmas lunch it is expected that you will work for the afternoon (unless you take leave).

If you attend the Christmas lunch there is no expectation that you will return to work after the Christmas lunch.

Any questions please let a Christmas elf know (Kim, Brian, Lydia, Jane A, Elizabeth or Theresa).
