Library staff can take books from 1.30pm (Law staff have 1st dibs from 1pm as we agreed during the consultation process).

This week Elizabeth and I have removed the remainder of the Detective Fiction collection from Level 7.
The books are now in LAC awaiting reclassification or withdrawal.
There are still a small number on loan but as these are returned Customer Services will place any returned detective fiction books on the LAC trolley and label “for Theresa Buller” and Elizabeth and I will assess these as they are returned.
We will hold another book giveaway for the remainder of the withdrawn material soon and I will post details once these are finalised. Any books that aren’t rehomed by the Law academics or Library staff will go on the free table after the book giveaway.
Any questions please let Elizabeth or I know.
Thanks
Theresa
It may be 237 days until Santa visits but the Library Christmas lunch team are already thinking about this year’s Christmas lunch!
This year’s Library Christmas lunch will be held at Haere-roa (the new UCSA building on Ilam Road) on Friday 29th November 12.30 until 3pm.
Mark your calendars for an afternoon of food, laughs and celebrating the our 2019 successes.
More details in about 170 days….

A reminder that the old LexisNexis platform will be turned off THIS Sunday… as far as John, Kim and I are aware there is one link to this left on the Law Subject Guide – I will delete this on Monday morning.
I have also emailled all 200-level and above Law and Criminal Justice students to tell them to stop using it too..
For nostalgia’s sake here is what we are farewelling… in all it’s “oh wow we can do stuff on the World Wide Web 1990’s glory…”
Mōrena,
This is a shameless not work-related sales pitch.
Sam and Molly are selling Cookie Time cookies to fundraise for their Cub pack. Each cookie is $1.
There is a sign too that reads:
$1 Cookie Time cookies for sale
for raising money for Halswell black plume cubs so we can
do fun stuff at cubs
thank-you from Sam and Molly Buller
sign by Sam Buller
If you’d like to purchase 1 (or more!) I’ll pop them in the staff room.
Thanks so much for your support
Theresa
Kia ora koutou.
We will be switching off the “old” LexisNexis platform next Sunday 7th April.
This has been replaced by Lexis Advance here: https://advance.lexis.com/nz?federationidp=W9G8P955290
We have noticed that the old platform has been used 600 times since the start of 2019 so are aware people are still using it.
You will need to update any bookmarks or saved links to the old platform ASAP.
If you haven’t used Lexis Advance John, Kim and I are happy to give you some training at a time that suits you or run a staff development session if we get enough interest – please let me know if you’d like me to organise this.
Any questions please get in touch.
Thanks
Theresa
Hi,
Today the “baby” first-year Law students are taking part in their annual scavenger hunt around campus between 10.30 and 11.30.
One of their clues will bring them into the Library. They will go to Level 7 then 8 and back down to Level 2… they have been told to keep quiet but I expect there might be a little additional noise!
I will float around these floors for that hour 🙂
Any questions please let me know
Thanks
Theresa
Over the summer Elizabeth and I have assessed 48% of the Detective Fiction collection on Level 7. Of this 48% 18% has been reclassified (or is in the process of being) and 30% withdrawn.
If you want actual numbers – 1113 out of 2287 items done, 431 reclassified, 682 withdrawn.
Much of the withdrawn material was taken by the Law academic staff and Library staff on Friday afternoon. This morning I will put the remainder on the free table at the bottom of Puaka James Hight.
We now need to pause this work so Elizabeth and I can focus on our Term One teaching.
After Term One Elizabeth and I will work on assessing then reclassifying/withdrawing the remaining material in the collection. We will have another book giveaway when this work is completed.
Thanks to everyone in LAC who has assisted with the reclassifying and withdrawal of this material 🙂
