He mihi maioha nā te whānau Paringatai/Taiuru

untitledThank you for organising a baby shower, and wishing our pepi and I well.  Your thoughtful gifts, attendance and shared kai that you provided made this occasion super special.  I’ve never had a baby shower before, so it was a new experience for me.  The first time I had a baby (oh some 23 years ago), I was considered too young, and now here we are again, at the other end of the spectrum and I struggle at times with being on the older side, but life is a blessing and our baby girl is testimony to this.  We are excited to meet her soon.  So thank you again for everything and sharing this special time with us.  Our whanau is truly grateful and appreciate your manaakitanga and aroha.

Me te whakaaro nui,
Te Paea, Karaitiana, Pepi, and her Big Brothers 5

Central Library: power outage today

Kia ora tatou,

Around 10,00pm last night, power in the Puaka-James Hight building was affected.  Electricians have assessed the issue this morning and have advised that the heavy rain last night caused a short-circuit in the lower floors (undercroft area) of Puaka-James Hight Building.

  • Current Situation:
  • Central Library is open
  • Even numbered floors have lights
  • North East lifts have lights
  • Odd numbered floors have no lights and may not have power as well
  • South East lifts have no lights
  • Level 4 appears to have a bulge in the ceiling and Joan has cordoned this area off with hazard tape
  • Jenny Owens is assessing any potential risk to stock and artwork, and she will liaise directly with key people as needed
  • Open Day activities are running as per usual
  • Some library staff on level 5 have moved to other floors that have power supply and a spare PC
  • Cleaners have done what they can on each floor, for toilets and rubbish
  • I’ll arrange for an update to be added to the Library website, advising visitors of the outage

Electricians are working to resolve the issue, and we hope to have things back to normal as soon as possible.  Please check back here for any further updates.

Nga mihi,
Te Paea

Customer Services changes and CS Coordinator opportunity

Kia ora tatou,

I’ll be on parental leave from Monday 8 August to Friday 9 December 2016, and we are pleased to let you know that Jenny Owens will be Acting Manager Customer Services while I am away.  Also, congratulations to Fiona who will be moving to the Academic Liaison – Learning & Teaching team in late August.  This is an exciting time, and we wish her all the best with her change in role.

As a result of Jenny stepping into the CSM role, we have a fixed term opportunity for an Acting Customer Services Coordinator based at EPS. This role is fixed term for 18 weeks, part-time, 30 hours per week, however we would consider full-time if your current position is full-time.  This is a great opportunity for someone who is seeking management/leadership experience, and/or seeking to work temporarily in a different team with a different focus.

In this role you will coordinate the day to day operational functions of the library including the supervision, mentoring and coaching of staff and monitoring workflow to ultimately provide high quality customer service to Library users. Supporting the Customer Services Manager you will ensure the learning environment within the Library is fit for purpose, and provides a safe and welcoming environment for a diverse audience. A copy of the Position Description and Handover Notes for the Coordinator position is available for your information.

We welcome expressions of interest for the EPS Coordinator role. Please email tepaea.paringatai@canterbury.ac.nz by 12.00 noon Friday 15 July 2016 with a brief outline of:

  • Why you are interested in this position;
  • What skills and personal qualities you will bring to the position;
  • What knowledge and experience you will bring to the position;
  • Flexibility to work at different library locations, evenings and weekends as may be required from time to time;
  • Flexibility to start at 8.00am or change hours of work as needed to cover for staff leave or absences as may be required from time to time;
  • Confirmation the pattern of work as outlined below is suitable:
Mon 8.30-3.30 0.5 break 6.5 hours
Tue 8.30-3.30 0.5 break 6.5 hours
Wed 5-9 0 4 hours
Thu 8.30-3.30 0.5 break 6.5 hours
Fri 8.30-3.30 0.5 break 6.5 hours
TOTAL     30 hours

Nga mihi,
Te Paea Paringatai
Manager, Customer Services

Staff Development Programme: 27 June to 1 July 2016

Education Library Closed Today

We’ve had a chance to assess the damage and can now confirm the Education Library is closed today due to a large water leak.

The closure will be active until further notice and we will advise when the library will reopen as soon as practicable.

For those who have room bookings/appointments based at EDU, please make other arrangements.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
