‘Not one more acre: The Maori Land march 40 years on’

Mauri ora!

Yesterday National Library had Paul Diamond give a talk at the Auckland centre about his current Turnbull Gallery exhibition ‘Not one more acre: The Maori Land march 40 years on’ – Te Karere sent a reporter down and there was a story on last night’s episode about finding more information about the people in the photographs if you are interested.

They’re coming back! Library Awards

Nga mihi i roto i te wa o Koanga,

Spring 2015 heralds the return of the “Library Awards”.  A huge thanks to those of you who expressed a passion to get on board and help shape the awards for 2015/2016.  We’ve got a small, talented working group established (Dave Clemens, Rebecca Fisher, Hugh Joughin, Fiona Wilson, Catherine Pope and myself) to get the planning underway.

There will be opportunity for others to join the working group in the future, with a mix of old and new hands to keep the energy, enthusiasm and new ideas at optimum.

More information about the awards and categories will be coming, so watch this space!

Taking libraries to 2025: the future of libraries

One of the topics from the library forum today.  Keen to know more?  Want to have your say?  Read on…

On July 31st 2015 the Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa and Te Rōpū Whakahau co-hosted Taking Libraries to 2025: The Future of Libraries Summit at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington.

Aimed at driving greater collaboration in the sector this future focused summit was looking for concrete actions to cement the integral role that libraries play in their communities, whether those communities are made up of academics, students, employees, or general public.

The summit highlighted the fact that it is essential for the sector to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate changes to secure the future of the profession for mutual benefit, as individuals and the communities we serve. We left the summit inspired to tackle the priority issues we identified together.

The report is the first piece of work to come from the Summit – we’ll be continuing to act on the suggestions made in this report to realise our shared future vision.

The report is available online at  www.lianza.recollect.co.nz

Recollect is a web based tool produced by NZMS.  Recollect allows you to comment on the various parts of the report, tag people, add actions, and help us hone what we’ve developed out of the Summit feedback.   We wanted to create a living report that is agile and able to adapt as our future evolves.  There is also the ability for you to share the great stuff you are doing at your library and in your region to take the sector forward.

You can view the site without logging in but in order to comment and tag data you will need to log in.
