Borrower Registration Project

Simplification of the borrower registration procedure for subscriber borrowers is the object of a Project Group that has been sponsored by Te Paea.

There is a general discussion document and minutes of the first meeting on the K drive: K:\LIBR-Library\Projects\Borrower-Registration

Generally, subscriber borrowers are those whose sole relationship with the library is that they wish to borrow books. There are variations on the theme but the purpose of the group is to recommend a clear and simple process.

The project group is Romy Forrer,  Jenny Owens, Lyn Gifford, Sandra Gover, Jan Scandlyn and Tim O’Sullivan.

Visitor WiFi access

This morning IT announced via an email to the library lending account that UC will be offering Wifi access to visitors.

The email is as follows:

Hi All

As of Monday the UCvisitor network is now open for self-registration for internet access.

A customer is  required to have a mobile number to register. This is used to send the username and password to.

The account is active for 12 hours of use and can be used on up to 3 devices at any one time.

An example is below for your reference.

  1. When a customer selects the UCvisitor network a webpage will open asking them to either register or use an existing UC IT account for access1

3. Once the details have been enter and the terms of user accepted the mobile number entered will receive a SMS message containing the username and password. Please note the username is the customers password.

UC Health and Safety Committees

Dates for the meetings of the UC Health and Safety committees for 2017 are posted to the UC Health and Safety page . Minutes for the Committees are posted as they occur and minutes of last year can be accessed through the link at the bottom of the page. Minutes of the Campus Construction Safety Group are posted there too. This group has ben proactive in safety issues that affect students, staff and public on Campus and produced the striking safety signs that were around campus last year.

The library is a part of the Learning Resources Health and Safety Committee and library reps on this committee are Swee Hoon, Dave Lane, Hugh Joughin and Tim O’Sullivan.

Coffee issues on the stairs

Our colleagues who we share Central library with have mentioned that there has been an issue with coffee spills in the lift lobby of the level 1 North West Staff entrance.

In the unlikely event that this happens there is a bucket and some Handee towels on the landing beside the mail boxes. If you need help with the cleaning please let me know.

In general it has been recognized through scientific observation that stairs and coffee don’t mix well either…
