Taylor & Francis (T&F) 2019 Evidence Based Acquisition (EBA) eBook program

Like 2017 and 2018, the library is doing T&F EBA eBook program in 2019 again. With EBA, UC students and staff can access 571 T&F eBooks across a wide range of subjects, plus 349 engineering eBooks from ENGnetBASE for 12 months. At the end of that period (April 2020), we will use the usage data collected to select and purchase the most popular titles up to the amount we pre-paid.

All those eBooks in the EBA program are DRM free, unlimited, multiuser access. Individual eBook bibliographical records are available in both the Catalogue and MultiSearch.

ProQuest Ebook patron survey results

Following on from ProQuest eBook user survey, here is the survey results:

There were 2,372 unique users. 2,238 users took part in the survey and 134 users chose to opt out. It is good response rate for such a short period when our undergraduates and postgraduates were preparing for or taking their exams.

College users study or work in — In the survey, users from College of Arts (771). Business & Law (553), Education, Health and Human Development (331) claim the first 3 places respectively. This order of placing matches the subject contents of our ProQuest eBooks. In the 165, 000 ProQuest eBooks we currently have access to, the majority of those eBooks are in Humanities and social sciences, business, law and education subject areas. The least users came from Engineering School because of we have very few engineering eBooks in ProQuest platform – Springer is the predominant provider for Engineering subject ebooks with about 20,000 engineering titles.

ProQuest Academic Complete –a multidisciplinary eBook subscription collection with about 150,000 eBooks provides a comprehensive foundation of ebooks for both our undergraduates and postgraduates.

ProQuest eBook user survey

To better gather users’ demographic information and find out their main purpose for using eBooks, we are going to run a brief survey using the ProQuest LibCentral patron analytics tool. The data can be fed into all usage and expenditure reports, providing a new window into collection use.

3 questions will be included in this survey:

  1. College they study or work in
  2. User types, academic staff, general staff, postgraduate or undergraduate
  3. Use of eBooks for studying, teaching, research et al.

Users are asked just once to complete the survey the first time they access ProQuest Ebook Central online reader. The eBook survey is anonymized. Users can opt out of the survey.

The eBook survey will run for 3 weeks from 28th May to 17th June.

Please email me if you have any questions.
