High demand requests through Assyst

Hi all

Due to the high number of high demand requests being received by the customer services team through Assyst, please be advised that your request will be handled as soon as possible, but it may not be possible to have these completed and in the High Demand collections by Monday 24th February. We would appreciate a slightly longer lead-in time in the future!

Library Assistant participation in AskLive

Hi all

From the start of this academic year we are going to move away from the Library Assistant AskLive Roster, and instead all library assistants are expected to take responsibility for being logged into AskLive at all times they are at (or close by) their desks. This is what I think many of you are doing already, and now that we all have increased confidence and skill, this should be manageable.

If you think you may well forget to login each day you are at work, you can set a recurring reminder in your calendar, or you can set your web browser to automatically open the log-in screen to Asklive when you start up the web browser.

If AskLive is particularly busy, and there do not appear to be many library assistants logged in, please phone the workrooms of each library and ask for assistance.

Many thanks

Canterbury Cards and other enrolment services

Hi all

From this morning, Security will be making Canterbury Cards in the Central Library Level 3. This service will be provided this week Monday – Friday from 9am-4.30pm, and next week Monday-Friday 8.30-4.30pm and outside these hours Security will continue to make Canterbury Cards from Security Office. It is anticipated that the cards will be made in the Central Library until Friday 21st February, however this is not confirmed at this point.

Parking permits are also being processed in the library, The Health Centre also have an enrolment desk on Level 3. At this point we are not aware of any other units that will be offering services from the Library for this week. International Orientation is next week and will bring all enrollment services for these students to Level 3 of the library.

DPI Awareness Tip of the Week 6/1/2014

Welcome back, and I hope you have all had some rest amongst the festivities.

January is a month where we will accomplish a number of projects across the library. Being mindful of dpi as we commence these tasks will help ensure a healthier outcome for us all.
The following are some reminders to ensure that tips:
1. Be prepared for your contribution to the project – know in advance of your rostered time to a project
2. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the task
3. Ensure you take a rest – and ensure you relax during your lunch and tea breaks
4. Work steadily through the project, either individually or as a group, and if as a group, ensuring that all the group support each other as they work through the tasks
5. Be aware of the load on your body eg. wrists, shoulders, and to stop if you feel any pain
6. Keep hydrated
7. Let the project supervisor know if there are problems with the workflows or any issues that arise.

Christmas hamper contributions for UC Warehouse staff

Hi,
The customer services team would like to invite you to contribute a festive edible item for a hamper for the UC Warehouse staff, who throughout the year, contribute to our smooth operation on a daily basis, as well as helping us out with all the other projects and materials that have something to move around campus. Their willingness and good nature to help us all is much appreciated.

There is a collection box (yes, a crown one) in my office, labeled accordingly if you would like to drop something off. Alternatively you could put it in the hamper (disguised) addressed to me.

Early in the last working week before Christmas we will deliver it to them.

Let me know if you have any questions,
Thanks

Central Library hosting library volunteer

Hi all

The Central Library is hosting Tess Davies, a recent UC graduate who is interested in a career in libraries, from 18th November – 13th December. We have arranged a programme that will show her the varied tasks that are undertaken by library assistants, as well as projects that we are undertaking during this time. The programme also includes visits to all the libraries and other areas of the library. Please make her feel welcome, and hopefully you will all be able to contribute to the many questions she will have.

Thanks
Isabel
