Library car parks at Dovedale Campus

The Education library has two parks at Dovedale campus for staff working a late night to utilise. These are located adjacent to the Health Sciences Centre and have ‘Library’ in yellow text on the tarmac.

Now that parking restrictions have been reinstated, it would be appreciated if these parks were left vacant for the appropriate staff to use when they commence their shifts.

Staff utilising these parks need to have a staff parking permit during weekday, daytime hours. After 5pm Monday-Friday, or at the weekend there is no requirement to have a permit.

If you currently use these parks and are not working a late night that day, it would be appreciated if you could park elsewhere on the Dovedale campus.

Thanks
Isabel

Education Library – popular series

The series ‘Health and Physical Education: Curriculum in action’ is currently receiving a lot of enquiries. There are 21 titles in this series. This can be found on the catalogue if you search by ‘series begins with’. The students often come to the desk talking about ‘the health books’ – and this is most likely what they are referring to. We have multiple copies in the general collection as well as copies in 3day and 3hour loan. We also have a ‘cheat sheet’ on the front desk (left hand side) which list the titles and gives their call numbers. Students often don’t know what topic they want to research and use this first.

Commerce Collection at Law

Thanks very much to all who helped the Law staff with shelf-checking the Commerce Collection over the last week. Just over half of the collection is now in order.

I need one more concentrated effort over the next few days to break the back of this task. If you can volunteer your time, even for one hour, please do. Please fill in the roster here to indicate when you can come.
NB – the working conditions are pleasant, the library is light and airy, and there is no noise or gritty atmosphere to disturb you in your labours!

Thanks,

Progress with Commerce Collection

Thanks to all the people who have helped shelve commerce books. Last week we cleared HB and HC, this week there are HD and a few HG to do. Then some shelf ordering adjustment to make the breaks between stacks more logical.

Many thanks to those staff who have already leant their muscles and brains to this task. I can see the difference it has made. Thanks also to the volunteers who have put their name down for this week.

UCLive (from UC Diary)

UC Live portal page is being switched off We have decided to switch off the UC Live portal page www.uclive.ac.nz that was used by students as a gateway into other services such as their email. This page was intended to be a fully-functioning student portal but never delivered on its original design objectives. It does not add any real value for students and some very recent technical changes by Microsoft would have made it even more ineffectual. We do not see that disabling the page will be an issue for students; this change does not impact or alter the student email service. UC communications staff are liaising with UCSA staff to ensure that our communications about this change are effective.

Students will now be encouraged to access the Current Students web page as their gateway into services. Student announcements are now available on this page along with links to all services that the UC Live portal provided such as email and skydrives. Students who try to access the UC Live portal page will be presented with a screen explaining the changes. Consequently we do not believe that students will be confused; they should rapidly adapt to the absence of the page.

This change will occur during the week of Monday 7 February.
