Marketing Update

Kia ora koutou,

The marketing team has been busy working to maintain our online social media presence. We have seen continued growth on all our platforms.  During lockdown we had several comments from people expressing their appreciation of our posts. . “Honestly whenever I’m sad I’m just like… what is UC Library up to today”

Grad Fest will run from 8-11 June. Enrolments will open soon and will be through the Academic Skills Centre website which will then link to the programme in LibCal.

UC Events are planning for Rā Tōmene – Online Open Day.  We are hoping to submit a short video about the library.

Kiera and Fiona are running UC’s Visualise Your Thesis 2020. Students create a short audio-visual presentation that illustrates their Thesis topic. Entries open June 1 – July 31 with the winner announced August 22.

Andy will be doing a mini relaunch of Makerspace with an activity afternoon next Wednesday 27th. This will likely include badge making, origami and mask making.

It has been good to be back in the workroom today and feel like we are returning to some sense of normality!

As always if you need an event promoted you can find the marketing request form on the left hand side of Counter Culture.

Recreate a photo from the archives.

I may have had a sneak peek at a fantastic photo recreation that Sara did and it really made me want to give it a go!

I thought if I shared my efforts it might encourage others to give it a go too.

Keep in mind it doesn’t necessarily have to be a photo that you recreate.. it could be an artwork. Get creative with stuff you have lying around the house.

Golden Tickets

This week we are kicking off a couple of study/exam week competitions, one of which involves the above golden tickets!

This competition will be run on Instagram and there will be 10 giveaways in total across all 3 libraries.

If someone brings a ticket to the front desk please exchange it for a block of Caramilk chocolate. You will be able to find the choc here…

Kia ora koutou,
I promised the student who sent this message  that I would share it with everyone.
“The staff in the Macmillan Brown library were nothing short of exceptional during the lockdown yesterday. They provided support, information, and access to their food and staff room facilities. They made a horrendous situation bearable for those locked inside, and I can’t express my gratitude enough.” Logan

Plant babies needed

Can you help the Orientation team?

Do you have an excess of small cacti/succulents or small easy care  plants?

For Orientation Day 2019 the library Orientation team will be making plant study buddies for students to take away.

This idea came the Instagram post (pictured below) that Juliet did a while back. It was very popular and received lots of positive feedback from our Instagram followers.

We thought this was a sweet way to welcome our new students who may be feeling lonely and overwhelmed. The plant is something that can grow with them throughout their journey at UC.

If you do have some plants to donate please give them to either Juliet or Zina in the Central Library workroom.

Thank you!

Sending Love

Kia ora

Just letting everyone know that this year we are a community drop off point for ‘Sending Love’.

Sending Love is about people and communities coming together to make a festive gesture (in the form of a Christmas card) towards another person who may experience loneliness over Christmas.

You can get involved by writing/making cards or donating cards for others to write in.

There will be a collection box at every library. The cut off point for donating and writing cards is December 9th.
