Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori: UC Libraries Celebrate

mlw-event-img3

Kia ora, koutou! Nau mai, haere mai, ki Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2017!

This year Māori Language Week runs from 11th – 17th September. The theme is “Kia ora te reo Māori”, which not only picks up our national greeting, but means literally “Let the Māori Language live”. UC Central Library will be hosting the opening ceremony at 9.30am on Monday 11th September.

Keep an eye out in all four of the UC Libraries for free resource packs, games and events. Both Education and EPS Libraries are holding Wharewhare sessions (Bingo!) and Central and Education Libraries will also be holding Storytime sessions for children – feel free to bring along your younger whānau members.

All UC Libraries will be showing their aroha for te reo Māori, with displays going up and new kupu to learn. Central Library will also be hosting a waiata session – no experience needed. Tau kē!

Check out the Te Wiki o te Reo Māori Programme, which also includes info on where to collect free UC Te Reo Resource Packs for all staff and students.

Diversity Fest 2017

Publication1

Kia ora

I am in the process of making posters and lcd slides for us to use during UC Diversity Fest.

They will be based around a small selection of quotes that celebrate/support diversity. I was wondering if anyone knows of one that they are happy to share? Can be in any language.

Te Paea has started the ball rolling with this lovely Māori proverb.

E koekoe te tui

E ketekete te kākā

E kūkū te kereru

The tui sings, the kākā chatters, the kererū coos.

Jigsaws for exam stress relief

Kia ora

During study week and exam time the marketing team thought it would be a good idea to put a jigsaw or two out in each library.

Puzzles are known to be good for your mental health and can help keep stress at bay.

Does anyone have a jigsaw they would be happy to donate to the cause? I say ‘donate’ as we can’t guarantee pieces won’t go walkabout.

Please email me if you have one we can use.

Thank you.
