Wanda (who is our cleaner here at EPS) made us this very sweet gift in one of her craft classes!
Apparently she liked the lolly pop tags so much she wanted to do something with them.
Just something that made EPS staff smile today. 🙂
Only 3 more sleeps until the Silent Disco!
The disco will be taking place in the area behind the information desk on level 2 of Central Library
There will be a table where students will exchange their Canterbury card or other photo id for the loan of wireless headphones that connect to RDU breakfast show host James Dann’s music mix. We have 120 headsets.
RDU has kindly put an ad on air and I may have agreed to be interviewed about the event! eek. UCSA has leant us the headphones and transmitter free of charge.
If anyone is interested in helping us set up on Friday we would really appreciate it. Rā and I will be there from 10am.
The event already has 257 people interested on facebook with 76 saying they will be attending!
See you on the dance floor!
The Orientation group have been busy gearing up for O week 2017.
Here is an update of what will be going in the libraries.
Silent Disco 12-2pm Friday 17 Feb, Central Library. In association with UCSA and RDU, students can dance to music through wireless headphones. The main area behind the information desk will be cleared out as a dance floor. The DJ is James from the breakfast show on RDU and UCSA is providing the headphones. This will be advertised widely, so hopefully we get a good turnout. Posters are going to print tomorrow so I will send them around in the hampers as soon as they arrive.
Displays in cabinets in Central Library – each library gets one cabinet to promote the library and its collections. This is located in the prime position between the 2 set of lifts. These will be put on Friday 10th of Feb ready for Monday 13th. The displays will be accompanied by large posters promoting each library. Also going to print tomorrow.
Quiz – there will be a paper and online version. Prizes – one winner drawn each week of $20 worth of food and other goodies. For first 2 weeks of term. Pen for all who enter.
Lollipops to be given out to students – enrolment week and first week of term (until supplies run out)
Choose your fortune – a glass jar with little pieces of paper inside with a library related “fortune” written on it. These will be on the information desks of each library.
Social Media competition 20 Feb – with $20 prize packs – one prize per library to be chosen. The competition is for the first person to come to each library desk and say the library name in Te Reo. So make sure you are all familiar with the Māori name.
Displays – each library will also have a world map with pins to show where students are from, plus other displays.
Any questions just send me an email.
See you all on the dance floor!

Hi everyone
I’m not having much luck finding the photos that were taken when the cat visited the library. Does anyone have some they can send me?
Thank you. 🙂
It’s about time I updated everyone about the lost book procedure changes! As of 29th September the below changes were implemented.
• One horizon generated invoice emailed to borrower
• No minimum lost book charge (determination of cost will be left to the discretion of LAC staff. Where possible a price close to replacement cost will
be established. This can be a difficult/time consuming process so estimates may be made in some cases).
• Borrowers may not replace lost books with their own copies or a copy they purchase
• No $20 administration fee
• Borrowers now have 21 days to pay
• If a borrower returns a book and then requires a refund that refund must be claimed within 3 months
For most people (except the really bad cases) they will now be receiving only one Library Invoice for their lost book invoices. This is a Horizon-generated Library invoice. If the Library invoice is not paid in 21 days (officially, however in practice we will allow up to 3 months) we will now be placing a sanction on student records or, for staff, we will be sending them an Oracle invoice. This will not happen for invoices where the invoice amount is less than $100. Sanctioned students will have alert blocks added to their Horizon records.
Note – There are still outstanding Finance/Registry invoices in the system and the old rules will still apply for these (do not pay, send borrower to cashier), alert blocks will remain on the borrower records for these items.
In addition, we will still be raising some Finance invoices where the student sanction or staff invoice has not been dealt with and the debt is significant – this is so we can use the official UC bad debt recovery process.
There are still several issues to iron out but we are making good progress and hope the new procedure will be more streamlined for both staff and students.
Thanks everyone for your patience with this. 🙂
In our meeting earlier this week, the library orientation group decided to open up the question of a theme to the wider library.
The last couple of years have been the “Get Smart” theme so it feels like a good opportunity to come up with something fresh and catchy.
So…do you have any ideas? We welcome any suggestions! I am away until Tuesday next week so will look forward to reading your ideas when I get back.
Please either comment below email me directly. Thanks
I have just come back from a CETF meeting where I was informed that the heating outage will now take place on Sat 27th August and not this Saturday the 20th.
Just to let everyone know that EPS will be without heating this Sat due to building work. We will remain open.
Signage is up to let students know and I will post something on facebook later in the week.
