There is an ENGL 213 reading list out there with two mistakes on it for the same 3-hour loan book, making it a bit of a challenge to find!
The book is called ‘In Front of the Children’, (not In Front of the Cinema), and it is edited by Bazalgette and Buckingham (not Bazagette..)

Low toner in the Den
The toner is low and was shaken at 9.40am. Printing seems all right after being shaken. A new toner is stored behind the Help Desk for whoever at the desk to change in the later stage.

This exhibition is almost up – there are 4 more works to be hung. The exhibition will be formally opened on Monday 1 October. The theme of the exhibition is – works by Maori staff and students of the Fine Arts Dept.
Reset PIN is a repeat of the WHOLE barcode
A student just told me that her reset PIN didnt work. She had been advised at the Help Desk that the reset value was just the numbers between the CU and D. This was changed at the beginning of 2007. Reset PIN is a repeat of the WHOLE barcode.
Students coming into the den when a class was in session…
I had about 20 students trying to come into the den today while a class was in session. This continued in spite of me shutting the door and even putting a chair against the door….
I need to think of some more drastic measures to stop this…any suggestions??
Heating in Rms 905 and 1105
I have had a student complain that these 2 rooms are too cold.
Tim has had a look and has placed a BIEMS request.
Serials from bindery with green wrappers
Hi all
Just a wee reminder that serials from bindery with green ‘in library use only’ wrappers (held on the holdshelf for borrowers) do NOT get issued – even if you see a barcode on the serial. Just hand them to the requestor for use in the library (like reference only interloans). If the borrower wants to hold on to the item after the initial use get them to hand it to Lending Desk staff who will place it item back on the holdshelf for the remaining 5 days.
Cheers
lift no 13 does not seem to be working…
Student reported it and I checked and nothing seemed to be happening….
Another way to encourage departments to spend their book money
I thought I’d share a tip from Blackwells Collection Manager which may be of interest to Information Librarians. I was working with Kerry this morning to identify titles of interest for Social Work, to help them spend their book money.
In Collection Manager (which you should have a login to, contact me if you don’t), if you go to the Lists menu and select Selection Lists, you can view lists such as the Blackwells Best Sellers, Choice outstanding titles and Choice recommended titles.
If, for example, you choose Choice recommended titles, you can view lists by (broad) subject, e.g. Social and behavioral sciences. You can then click a link at the top to Download Titles, click download once more, save as a txt file, open in Excel (it will be in tab delimited format), and then you can sort by LC number (for example).
Departments/LLOs may find these lists helpful if they are trying to spend their book money at the moment, Social Work is an example of a department who are.
Some departments who have fairly healthy book balances at the moment include:
Fine Arts
Journalism
Linguistics
Social Work
Accountancy (they have heaps!)
Management
We will be encouraging them to spend their money and it would be helpful if you could put in a word likewise if you get the opportunity!
Also I would be keen to receive recommendations for purchase against the General Social Science fund which still has a bit in it.
Also you may be interested to note that recommendations for items using the 2007 expensive acquisitions fund need to be in with Cynthia by Friday 14th September. See the Collection Services blog, Collection Point for more information.
Also, the final date for orders to be processed this year is Friday 19th October. This allows sufficient time for the majority of items to be received by the Library before the budget is closed at the end of December.
