Japanese Language Proficiency Test will on held on Sunday 2 December 2012. Applications are open from Wednesday 1 August until Friday 14 September. Application forms are kept in the cabinet behind the Central Lending Desk. If they are running out, the students can ask for it at Consular Office of Japan located in 12 Peterborough Street, Christchurch.
Simon White (CEPS) has dropped off some tools we can use for unjamming the heat binder
A metal “key” (used to open the binder case) and forceps (for removing mangled strips without burning fingers) are now labelled and living in the cupboard behind the desk (right next to the boxes of binding strips and staples). Please make sure these go back here if you have used them.
The Central Library will be briefly disconnected from the Network early tomorrow morning (around 7.30). This shouldn’t affect anything, but the Dayend machine may reflect this by showing error messages. However, Dayend itself should have finished several hours earlier so provided the logs are OK, error messages can be ignored.
We have received a couple of boxes of narrow strips for the heat binding machine from CEPS. These will be kept in the cupboards behind the desk. Please replenish the supply by the binding machine if you notice stocks getting low (or, more realistically, if borrowers report being out of them). If you put the last box out please email kate.frew@canterbury.ac.nz and copy in ceps@canterbury.ac.nz to send more supplies over. In your email state they are narrow strips for the central library heat binding machine.
an update on the scanner issue (L2 Central lib) from ICTS.
ICTS cannot figure out what is causing the issue (some students are able to login to some mopiers and others cannot). Card readers for photocopying are also not working consistently (only working for some student cards). Ricoh have been asked to check the mopiers but can’t do this until Monday next week.
Hi
ICTS have advised that the 3 mopiers on level 2 are currently not working for student scanning. Mopier on Level 9 should be ok. ICTS are working on this.
The key cupboard (formerly located in room at the back of the self-loan area) has been liberated from its former home and is temporarily located on the communal work-space/desks in the staff workroom. The desk with the computer screen facing the divider wall.
The EFTPOS reload station is being updated by ICTS – it has an out of order sign on it. There is another reload machine down by the old copycentre that students can use to top up their cards
The mopier in the self-loan area is not working for student scanning (fails to authenticate students when they attempt to log in), though it does still work for staff.
I have logged a job with ICTS to fix this.
The mopiers by the old copy centre on level 2 DO still work for student scanning
Image builders will be doing some noisy work on level 2 in the central area of the Central Library today. They need to install new downpipes (the ones thast drain the roof over the level three area). Please apologise to library users for the noise and explain that the work is necessary and will not go on too long.
