ProQuest Social Networking Resources

ProQuest has launched the following new resources:

ProQuest Trainers on Facebook
“Social media is all about community and our page on Facebook is a new venue for us to interact with you, our users. The ProQuest Trainers’ page on Facebook will be a forum to announce upcoming training and materials while also offering a chance to highlight the ProQuest-oriented materials created by you, our users. Those who “like” our page will be able to post links to the ProQuest tutorials and exercises they’ve created, as well, which we hope will result in a nice repository of internal and externally created materials.”

EEBO Interactions, a forum for EEBO users to discuss the works and authors found in the database.
“Welcome to EEBO Interactions, an experimental forum designed to let users engage collaboratively with the works in ProQuest’s Early English Books Online (EEBO) database. If you’re a researcher, a graduate student, a librarian, or a frequent EEBO user we are interested in having you participate in the EEBO Interactions community. While we welcome everyone to search and read all of the content in EEBO Interactions, only authenticated EEBO users can register to create a profile, contribute or edit Interactions, or become an editor.”

ScienceDirect Enhancements

Selected articles in ScienceDirect have recently been enriched by two collaborations with third party providers. Contextual information links to NextBio, for life sciences, health sciences and chemistry articles, and PANGAEA (Publishing Network for Geoscientific & Environmental Data) for earth sciences articles, can now be found in ScienceDirect.

NextBio
While viewing an article or book chapter (published from 1995 and excluding Major Reference Works) on ScienceDirect, the keywords from that selected article or book chapter are matched against NextBio’s biomedical ontologies. On the article page, the NextBio application presents key terms found in that article. These can be viewed for further exploration.

PANGAEA
Articles in ScienceDirect with a corresponding data set in PANGAEA now display a PANGAEA icon and link directly to that data set on PANGAEA. Clicking on the icon takes the user to a page that includes citation information and a link to download the freely available data.

Harvard Business Review

We have lost online access to much of the content on HBR. For the last subscription year we have had promotional access to ‘premium’ content which gave us full access to current and past issues. This was never part of our subscription but it has left a big hole now it has been removed.

We are working on regaining access as soon as possible.

JSTOR Plant Science is an online environment that brings together global plants content, tools, and people interested in plant science. It provides access to foundational content vital to plant science – plant type specimens, taxonomic structures, scientific literature, and related materials. We are proud to be offering JSTOR Plant Science to all participating institutions worldwide at no cost.

This new environment includes content from our Global Plants Initiative partners, bringing the amount of materials to 800 000 type specimens, paintings, drawings, correspondence, and supporting materials. By 2013, we expect to have over 2.2 million type specimens available, making JSTOR Plant Science the largest collection of its kind in the world. These materials are now truly global in scope representing over 160 partners in 47 countries on 5 continents.
