Currently there are 24000 file resources on Learn which have been hidden (unavailable to students) for three years or more. These files were uploaded before the copyright compliance tool was completed and hence hold a considerable but unknown risk of non-compliance with current copyright law and licenses, as they can be unhidden, which makes them reportable and available to students in Learn courses.
Therefore all hidden files that have not been accessed for 3 years or more will be deleted. The deletion of these files will commence on the week of 25th July. If you do want to keep these files then if you ‘unhide’ them they will not get marked for deletion.
Please contact eLearning support if you require further information.
ProQuest advise they have increased the defaults for the amount you can copy and print from an eBook on their eBook platforms (increased to 20% and 40% respectively). They have also reduced the length of time the DRM “remembers” how much you’ve copied and printed to 24 hours (was 4 weeks).
The House of Commons Parliamentary Papers database which was a Chadwyck Healey product has moved to the ProQuest platform and has been renamed as: ProQuest U.K. Parliamentary Papers. The new URL is http://parlipapers.proquest.com/parlipapers The old Chadwyck Healey site will no longer be available at the end of this month.
We have updated the title and the URL in our database record.
Knowledge Basket have tightened up their security procedures and blocked access to News Index via Ezproxy. I have contacted them and requested them to renable access. Hopefully they will respond soon.
Apparently we are not alone in having some of our access blocked.

Intota is supplied by SerialsSolutions. Access & Collections are starting work on the implementation of Intota.
As you may have been able to guess by the name, Intota aims to give a ‘total’ solution to Library management so longer term it’s a possible replacement for Horizon. It’s developing into an Integrated Library Management system so can manage electronic and print resources.
To start, we’ll just be using it as a replacement for our ERM (360 Resource Manager). We’re working on adding printed materials so we can report on the usage of both together, later in 2016.
Intota is supplied by SerialsSolutions. Intota’s name, provides the same functionality as the legacy products (e.g. 360 Counter), which were provided as a suite of loosely coupled systems.
ProQuest have advised us that the new EBL/Ebrary platform should be up and running early in the new year. We will keep you posted on likely timing for Canterbury and will also keep ProQuest informed on dates we’d like them to avoid. Training will be provided and we expect that staff will be able to view the new platform before it goes live. Further details to be provided as they come to hand.
We are making some changes to our patron-driven EBL ebook profile. We are removing older titles that have not been used and have asked EBL to make those changes. EBL will deactivate these titles and send us a delete file for the Library Catalogue. In between EBL deactivating these titles and us receiving the delete file, there is a small risk users may click on an EBL title in this category and not get access. I say small risk, because the titles being removed are those that have not been used or browsed at all to date. However if a user does happen to need access we can put it back pretty quickly. Let acquisitions@libr.canterbury.ac.nz know what the title is if there are any problems and we will re-activate it. Thanks Tim Stedman
Springer visited us yesterday and I have put a copy of the powerpoint presentation here for wider interest. The slides on visitor referrers (from where users are coming to discover or access Springer content) are quite interesting. Tim S
