There is known global issue with WorldShare/Tipasa. It looks like patrons can still place interloan requests as per normal, but it may be intermittent until properly resolved.
Please suggest patrons try again later if experiencing problems, as it shouldn’t be long before fixed.
As we are doing some maintenance on Minisis this week (4-6 Jan) Minisis clients and Kā kohika will be inaccessible for a time – shouldn’t be more than half a day today but may take longer if we encounter problems.
There was a message about the maintenance on Kā kohika warning users so hopefully the impact will be minimal.
I am sorry to share we have another confirmed Covid case in the library. UnfortunatelyTatiana has tested positive. Her last day on campus was yesterday morning in PJH. We wish her speedy and safe recovery.
Fortunately, all VuFind links are stable, so if you need to share search results and records from the new VuFind catalogue, you can just copy the link from your browser address bar.
We’ll be carrying out the last step (hopefully) with Horizon annual maintenance tomorrow (Thursday 22nd December) after the library closes at 4pm.
This step requires us to take everything connected to Horizon offline so there will be no Horizon, Library Catalogue (a message has been added to the current/original catalogue to let people know) or RFID/self-loan station/smart bin etc. connections from around 4:15pm until we complete the maintenance.
Libcat (VuFind) should still work for searching for titles/bibs but My account, requesting, holdings info etc. will not be functional.
This is new to Donna and I (kudos to Peter for doing this in his own Christmas break time for so many years) – so not too sure how long it will all take but should have the catalogue back up running in an hour or so. Hopefully everyone is in holiday mode and won’t even notice.
ELS team – please don’t set DayEnd to run tomorrow – we’ll do it after we’re done with the maintenance.
Hugh and I volunteered yesterday to help the Society of St Vincent de Paul Papanui make up and deliver seventy Christmas parcels for less well-off families in the Papanui, Bishopdale and Belfast areas. Each parcel contained basic food items, a meat pack and Christmas fare such as Christmas mince pies and chocolates.
Hugh and Tim started off at 9.00am with preparatory work labelling boxes and preparing the food for allocation to boxes. Further parish volunteers arrived at 10.00 to pack parcels and then begin delivery from 11.00am. Hopefully this contribution will help to make Christmas a little easier for the families who got parcels.
Thanks to the library management team for supporting our participation.
I’ve had a call from the Law Society Library this morning.
They are trying to track down the details of a Court case in the 1980’s involving a UC lecturer/professor who was convicted of fraud.
Apparently the lecturer intervened (by impersonating the student) in ensuring that a student didn’t get a scholarship and further opportunities based on the scholarship. He was then convicted of fraud due to his actions.
The lecturer was Nirehay Singh and he was a Psychology lecturer/professor.
Does this ring any bells with anyone (who may have been here in that time) so that we can narrow the dates down and locate the newspaper report?
We can’t find this case or any reporting of it in any of the NZ legal databases and everything online Papers Past / Knowledge Basket / CCL Papers index etc all either end before or start after this!
I have suggested that the NZLS also visit Tūranga and view their microfiche press index to see if it’s mentioned there.
There are some ongoing issues with access to the Passport (Euromonitor) database in Firefox and Edge browsers (Chrome appears to be fine). The following error results.
We are working with Digital Services to resolve the issue, however unfortunately, it will not be a quick fix. There is a reliable workaround – Using Chrome should be ok or using a private/incognito browser window also seems to work. Please advise staff and students to use these methods for the time being until we can put a permanent solution in place.
