We are setting up a working group looking at the wording and format of the Notices.
We are interested in improving communication with our borrowers, given that the Library sends between 2,700 and 12,000 print and emails notices per month. So, we would love to hear from you if you feel that there are improvements to be made in the wording and format. Let us know if you have any suggestions, comments or ideas.
We would appreciate hearing from you by 6pm, Friday 20/07/2007. Please email Sandra Gover or Seren Wendelken for further information.
Please change the status for any item you put on the call number, repairs, rebarcoding, or stripping shelf to ‘rs’ (relabelling). This will ensure that the Horizon record shows where the item is. Once the item has been attended to it will need to be checked in to return the status to ‘in library’. (This overrides my earlier posting in May when I confused the issue by asking for them to be changed to awaiting binding. They should be ‘rs’ relabelling.)

“With enrolment looming for the second semester, I would like to say that we will be unable to produce Library Cards over the period 9 – 18 July.”
ULANZ/CTA are unaffected by this. Library External borrowers will have to wait two weeks.
For those with a politics, economics or current awareness bent…

The discussion rooms in the Central Library will be painted next week (9-13th July). The bookings sheets have been blocked out for that period so that the painter can get free access.
There are some rooms booked for PD&R interviews next week. Use of the rooms for this should not be a problem as the painter will not be painting all the rooms at the same time. Students who wish to use the rooms may do so but will not be able to book and will have to move out when the room is needed for painting. THere are also some prior bookings, which can stay but students will not be able to make new bookings until Saturday 14th.
There’s a collection of three short videos up at Dotsub.com which explain what RSS, wikis, and social networking are and how they work using a whiteboard, pieces of paper, and a voiceover. They’re great fun to watch – short (2-4 minutes each), very easy to understand and just plain cute.
(Dotsub.com is a small video sharing site, a little like YouTube but if you supply English subtitles, your viewers can translate them into their own language which is then available to future viewers — check out the list of languages available on the RSS video, all user-created.)
The reload station is still not accepting notes. Rang Copy Centre and Marilyn will log a call with Desktop Support. In the meantime users can still add value using coins.
Charlotte Murphy from the College of Business and Economics will come to the Help Desk some time today to put up a poster advertising a Finance internship. Please stamp the poster and direct her to the community notice board on level 2 as usual.
