Free curtain bank to keep students warm

You’ve probably noticed the chilly winter temperatures over the last couple of weeks. If you’re worried about how you are going to survive the next few months living in a cold or damp home, UC’s Alex Manktelow and Hayden Barber, the guys running the Warm Homes Initiative with the UCSA club Engineers Without Borders, have a hot tip for you.

“A house loses A LOT of heat through windows. Good quality, generously fitting curtains are really important to prevent heat loss and also help to reduce drafts. An amazing local social enterprise called Community Energy Action (CEA) can help you and your flatmates.  CEA’s Curtain Bank recycles donated curtains into cold homes, and it’s chock-a-block full of curtains to give away to students who don’t have curtains at all, or have ineffective curtains.”Curtain bank photo 2016 vc for sm a

Visit CEA’s website to find out more about how to access this service. Please note you must fill out a curtain measurement form, and make an appointment first to access curtains.
