Flowers and road cones for earthquake anniversary

Tomorrow UC Events will place road cones and flowers on the Unicycle pathway along University Drive. That’s because it’s the eighth anniversary of the February 22 earthquake in Christchurch and road cones with flowers is a special tradition that developed in Christchurch as a way for the community to remember the events of that day.

UC dedicated the Unicycle pathway along University Drive as a commemorative pathway to acknowledge the courage and contribution of the University community following the earthquakes. Roimata, the commemorative sculpture at the Clyde Road end of the cycleway is also symbolic of the earthquakes and was unveiled on the 2018 anniversary.
