Winter GradFest is happening from 10 June to 14 June, with a variety of sessions to help you on your thesis journey. From statistics to literature reviews to research tools, this week will provide useful guidance and tips on the research process. Plus, there are social events where you can share your ups and downs with your fellow postgrads!
Whether you’re at the beginning, middle, or end of your postgraduate studies, you will find something helpful. If you’re just getting started, you may need to apply for ethics approval, which can be an intimidating process. Having someone explain the application and some of the common mistakes people make will save you time later on. You will also get a sense of the timeframe so you can better plan your schedule.
For those in the thick of the data collection or writing phases, you may be feeling really stressed and want to know how others in the academic world manage their stress. The panel of experts who will be speaking know what it’s like and will share some strategies that work for them. We all handle stress differently, but it’s comforting to know we are not alone and there are things that can help. There’s also a mindfulness session on the last day. If you haven’t tried this technique, now’s your chance to give it a go.
If you’re nearing the end of your postgraduate study, keep going! You’re almost there. You can listen to your fellow postgrads discuss their practical tips for getting to the end during the ‘Are we there yet?’ session. There’s also a session on the oral exam so you’ll feel more prepared for what this means for you.
