Congratulations! You’ve made it to the end of Semester 1! If this was your first year at UC, there was a whole heap of new stuff going on, and there’s still a lot to come. How did your mind and body hold up? Did you get to the gym as much as you’d hoped, or take that daily walk? Now that you’ve had a chance to breathe again, our top tip is to take what’s left of the holiday to RESET.
RESET – Reflect, Evaluate, Simplify, Establish a Plan, Time Block
Reflect on your Semester 1, without judgement, just taking stock of what has happened up until now. Did you set a goal of doing weights, cardio, classes, daily walks or meditation? Did you achieve what you planned?
Evaluate that stocktake, and be honest with yourself. Really look at what helped you achieve your goals (if you did), and what held you back (if you didn’t!). Did you have support people or structures that helped or hindered? What distracted you? Does this goal still matter to you, or have your priorities changed?
Simplify your life. What can you say no to, in order to say yes to what really matters? Our time is limited each day to 24 hours, we can’t simply add in an hour of activity or study, without making room. Everything matters, but not everything matters equally. What is most important to you?
Establish a plan. Prioritise what matters, and then break down your goals into weekly or monthly plans. (If you need help to streamline your gymtime, why not try a SteerMe programme? Our consultants can help with that!)
Time block your calendar. Just like scheduling your lecturers, labs and tutorials, you can schedule in your ‘me time’. Treat it like an appointment you can’t break, and schedule it with a friend for an even better chance of success. Don’t forget to schedule in some time for your next RESET (perhaps in the mid-term break?)
Don’t forget, our team at UC Rec&Sport are here to help you with your physical activity planning. We have a huge range of activities for you to try, so there’s a really good chance you’ll find something you like! Book in for a free StartMe orientation session with a consultant, and we can chat to you about options and show you some basics to get you started.
If you haven’t got your RecCentre membership for 2019, why not do it now? Sign up online at our website, then pop in to get your card activated on your first visit.
See you soon!
