Social and Drop-in Sport – what’s the deal?

Playing sport is a great way to stay active, stay connected and work on our health and wellbeing.  Try our social sport leagues or drop-in sport options.

Social Sport

During term time (actually, the first five weeks beginning Monday 20 July), UC Rec&Sport are offering seven leagues, across six different sporting codes, for you to get involved. It costs just $130 per team, per term to play, meaning if you get a group of 10 of you together, that’s just $13 each for 5 weeks of play. There’s no ref duty, no uniforms – just turn up an play for 30 mins. We supply everything.      Try the usual suspects – netball, futsal, basketball, volleyball and ultimate, or our new sport this term, handball.  Check out the social sports page for days/times.  Registrations close Friday 17 July.

Drop-in Sport

Every day we have a scheduled ‘drop-in’ sport session, in volleyball, badminton and futsal. These sessions are free for students (just make sure you join, remember it’s already paid for in your student levy).  Check out the schedule online, and if you’re game, just turn up.  The game starts when you’ve got enough players, and you self-referee. These are open to staff, students, members and non-members alike (although, non-members are charged $2).

Equipment Hire & Court Hire

Fancy just playing with a friend, when you feel like it? Our court hire is free before 4pm everyday, provided you just turn up at the counter and see if it’s available  – a bit like shooting hoops. If it’s not already booked for something, you can jump in there.  If you prefer to book ahead to lock in your time, or are playing after 4pm, then court hire fees apply.

If you have any questions, please just chat to one of our customer experience team or you can email gary.gin@canterbury.ac.nz

Play sport and be well!
