Enrolling to vote has never been as important as it is in 2020. This year has bought many challenges for our UC community, and one way to empower yourself and your mates in this uncertain time is through voting. It might seem like a small action, but voting can have a huge impact on you and your whānāu. This is your chance to have a say in your future and who represents you and your community.
It’s your right to vote. Enrolling as a student and updating your details has never been easier at vote.nz with your RealMe login. To be eligible to vote you need to be:
- 18 years old
- A New Zealand Citizen or
- A Permanent Resident and have lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months
Enrol and update your details by Sunday 16 August to ensure you are all up to date for Election Day and the two referendums on Saturday 19 September.
Not only will you be given the opportunity to vote in the general election but also for the two referendums: End of Life Choice Act 2019 and Cannabis Legalisation and Control Referendum.
- End of Life Choice Act 2019: your vote will help decide whether people with terminal illnesses should have the option of requested dying.
- Cannabis Legalisation and Control Referendum: having your say in this referendum will help decide whether the recreational use of cannabis should be legal.
Enrol, vote and be heard in this general election. Take charge and have a say in your future.
