Make the most of study and assignment support at UC

Whew, we’re a month into Semester One, and exams and assignments are starting to sneak up… Build on your strengths and boost your study skills with UC’s student support services.  

Top Tips and Tools

  • AKO | LEARN is your go-to site, providing all the details and resources for each of your courses. Use it to keep up to date with your assignments, due-dates and get in touch with your classmates!
  • Use UCGO to keep an eye on your timetable, access your emails and more.
  • Think of your degree as a full time job, where you’ll be working 40 hours a week. Make yourself a daily task list and treat yourself when you tick something off – you’re working hard, you deserve it!   
  • Keep a calendar of your assignments, when they’re due and how much they count towards your final grade.
  • With the mid-semester break coming up, it’s a great chance to catch up on your studies, review your progress and plan ahead for the rest of the semester.

Need Specific Advice?

  • You can have a one-on-one with your lecturers or tutors during their regular office hours, where they’ll be available to chat about course content.
  • Check in with our kaitohutohu ākonga | student advisors – each college has its own team, who can help you plan out your courses and degree options.
  • Kickstart your research by booking an appointment with a specialist librarian for your subject(s).
  • Want to talk to someone who’s done it all before? Having a mentor is an awesome opportunity to get all the info from someone who’s been there, done that. Atawhai Ākonga | Student Care advisors are here if you need to discuss getting on top of things, help understanding UC or any challenges or concerns that are facing you during study.
  • If you’re ākonga Māori, you can find tautoko (support) on your studies or uni life in general from our Kaiurungi in UC Māori.
  • Pasifika students can tap into the support on offer from the Pacific Development Team.

Te Pokapū Pūkenga Ako | Academic Skills Centre

If you have a question about how to get the most out of your study, Te Pokapū Pūkenga Ako is the place to go! Offering free workshops, drop-in sessions and appointments where you can have your work reviewed and critiqued before submission, the Academic Skills Centre (on the third floor of Puaka – James Hight Library) is here to help you succeed. 

Te Ratonga Whaikaha | Disability Service

The Disability Service assists students by providing appropriate, specialist resources, such as interpreters, notetakers, assistive technology and special arrangements for exams.

When Life Gets in the Way

Somethings things go wrong and it’s out of your control. If you’re having trouble with assessments due to unforeseen circumstances or impaired performance, you can apply for special consideration for assessment here.
