2018 Group Fitness Challenge – win a free entry

It’s back, better and bigger than before! Are you ready to accept the 2018 helloworld Group Fitness Challenge, on your path to wellness?

What is it?
Your goal is to attend 100 group fitness classes at the UC RecCentre in 8 months (or 217 days to be exact, if you sign up from the get go).   If you haven’t done the math already, it’s 3-4 classes per week, a nice healthy amount of exercise to keep you happy and healthy. We have separate prize categories for those reaching 100 classes and for those reaching 50-100 classes.  There are plenty of spot prizes along the way too, as well as encouragement and rewards for attaining milestones.  In all, we have $1000 in travel vouchers from helloworld Fendalton, and a further $500+ in spot prizes along the way.

What’s the investment?
Can you really put a price on your health and wellbeing?  Yes, yes you can.  For the tiny sum of $15 (or $10 for earlybird sign ups), you get a wee training booklet to collect your stamps each time you attend a class, and within that booklet around $25 worth of discounts and freebies.

How do I sign up?
Glad you asked. You’ll need to visit the RecCentre and sign up at the counter.  We’ll have a short registration form for you to fill in, you’ll need to give us your monies, and then we’ll issue you your class training diary.  We’ll start taking registrations from Thursday 15 March, and bonus, if you sign up between 15 March and Sunday 18 March, you can get yours for just $10! The challenge starts on Monday 19 March… keep your booklet in your gym bag and collect those stamps at every class.

Win a free entry!
We’re giving you loads of ways to win your registration for free.  First up, attend our Zumba Masterclass on Thursday 15 March at 6.10pm.  We’re giving away five free registrations on the night.  Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a Zumba master, as they say, there are no mistakes in Zumba, just accidental solos! We’ll also be selecting two lucky people who register before Monday 19 March to win their registration back. Make sure you follow our facebook page as well, because we’ll be sure to give some away there too…

For more information, check out our website, we have a whole page dedicated to the 2018 helloworld Group Fitness Challenge (or you can ask our instructors and reception team).

See you soon at the RecCentre.

Group fitness: Pink Shirt Day mega class

Pink Shirt Day is a day to celebrate diversity and show support to reduce workplace bullying.  So, that will explain the large numbers of UC staff wearing pink on Friday 26th May.   At the RecCentre, we can’t wait until Friday, so we’re holding a super special Pink Shirt mega class on Wednesday 24 May and we’d love for you to be there!

What is a mega class, you ask?  Multiple instructors and 90mins of exercise fun.  We’ll rumble through the range of classes we offer at the RecCentre, for about 10mins of each.  So don’t worry – if the thought of Zumba or HIIT frightens you, it will all be over quite quickly. Or who knows, maybe you’ll try it and end up discovering something new that you love! Dress up pink and be in to win prizes for best dressed. We’ve got spot prizes too!

Your RecCentre membership is free if you’re a UC student.  If you’re not a member yet, sign up online now so we can activate your membership, or you can do it at the desk when you arrive.

Want to bring a friend, but they’re not a UC staff/student or member of the RecCentre?  They can, but they will need to pay our usual $11 casual visitor fee, and be over 16yrs of age.

A quick recap…
Wednesday 24th May
5.10pm start time (so get here by 5pm)
90mins of awesomeness

See you there (in pink!)

RecCentre Group Fitness Challenge

Are you ready for this year’s Group Fitness Challenge, sponsored by Bargain Box?  Registrations are open now, and you can start collecting stamps from Saturday 1st April!

Recreation centre, various classes set up by staff for marketing services, 20.10.15 Client, Kat Henderson, Rec Centre.

Not sure what it is?  Head to our website and read up on the details.  In short, you sign up to complete 100 Group Fitness classes by Sunday 15th October, 2017.    It helps you stay on track to attend 3-4 classes per week, which will help you stay healthy and well through the year.   Keep track of your attendance by collecting a stamp in your class diary (you’ll get this once you register) from the instructor, after every class.  You can win monthly prizes, or the big ones at the end, and you’ll earn rewards as you hit milestones in your class diary.     Double stamp days earn you twice the stamps, which are great if you get behind when you go on holiday.

Here are our top tips to reach 100 classes in 29 weeks:

  1. Pick a day to plan your week, and pop your favourite classes into your diary. Prioritise yourself, and make sure you keep that appointment!
  2. Find a gym buddy to keep you extra accountable, they’re relying on you to turn up too. You can have your daily (or 3x weekly) catch-up over a workout instead of coffee (or do both!)   It really is much more fun!
  3. Keep an eye out for double stamp days on our facebook page and montly newsletters – you can collect 2 stamps for every class you attend on these days to zoom ahead (or catch up!)
  4. Attend our mega and glow classes – these are super fun, a chance to dress up and earn you extra stamps for attendance. The mega class also allows you to cross off a class you can’t get to because of scheduling, or that just doesn’t appeal to you.  (because yes, you do have to attend every style we offer at least once! It’s good to be open to new experiences!)

There are no limits to how many people can participate in the challenge, but the sooner you get started, the easier it will be to hit that magic 100.
