UC Netball and ENSOC Touch Leagues

Registrations are now open for the UC Netball & ENSOC Touch Leagues. Teams can include UC Students, alumni, and community members.

Get in quick as places are expected to continue to fill up fast.

UC Netball Leagues

  • Womens – 5 rounds, Thursdays 6-9pm ($100/team)
  • Mixed – 4 rounds, Sundays 4-8.30pm ($80/team)

ENSOC Touch Leagues

  • Recreational mixed  – 6 rounds, Wednesdays 5.30pm ($100/team)
  • Competitive Mixed – 6 rounds, Wednesdays 6.05pm ($125/team)
  • Competitive Mens – 6 rounds, Wednesdays 6.40pm ($125/team)

What’s the haps?! 16-22 March

This week is UC Diversity Week (16th-21st) so there are loads of different events going on for that! A lot of the events are also presented/provided for by clubs on campus, which is pretty awesome! You can check out the full line-up here, as only a few of the many events will be listed on this week’s ‘What’s the haps?!”.

Monday 16th:

  • Open mic forum (presented for FEMSOC): As part of Diversity Week FEMSOC will be providing a forum in which you can hear from a number of speakers from campus and the wider community about modern gender issues. 1-2pm in the Undercroft.
  • A night with Mojo Mathers (presented by DESOC)5.30-7pm in The Living Room. Mojo Mathers, NZ’s first deaf MP will talk on issues surrounding diversity and the rights of people with disabilities.
  • UC SciFi Quiz Night: 6.45pm at The Foundry test your sci-fi and fantasy know-how, and well as general knowledge! $5.00 for members, $7.00 for non-members.

Tuesday 17th:

  • Accessibility Amazing Race: Experience the world as other students may have to do either in a wheelchair, through vision impaired glasses or with crutches. Compete in a group of 5 students and race around campus to be in to win some cool prizes! 10.30-12pm, C Block Lawn.
  • St Patrick’s Day Party: A celebration as part of Diversity Week from 9-11pm at The Foundry! Djs will be on till late!

Wednesday 18th:

  • World Market: At lunchtime (11.30-1.30pm) don’t miss out on the delicious international options available on C Block Lawn. Don’t forget CASH! There will also be cultural performances from clubs and the wider community.
  • EFSOC (Economics, and Finance) Quiz Night: 6.30pm at Bentley’s bar, $2 entry.

UCSA club’s annual general meetings

It’s that time of the year again when clubs on campus conduct their Annual General Meetings (AGMs) and either hire or recruit a new panel of executives for the next academic year.

Here’s a handy little explanation of the processes with relevant details of my top three clubs on campus.

AGMs , as the name suggests, are held once a year for all club members where nominated potential executives stand in election. Voting is on the spot and open to club members only. Other activities in such meetings include: disclosing the year’s statistics, discussing the progress and maybe even providing a sneak peak into what’s in store for the next academic year.

While some clubs choose to take a democratic approach and have the members decide who should lead their clubs, others choose to hire them based on specific criteria to ensure the continued successful running of their dear club.

The best way to keep updated on AGM events is the respective club’s social pages, particularly Facebook. These announcements provide all the details you will need. Listed below are three of my favourite clubs on campus with details of their recruitment process and reasons why I favour them…
