Magna Carta, one of the most celebrated documents in history, will be the topic of discussion in this year’s Jim Gardner Memorial Lecture, being held in C2 at 2pm on 26 July. The lecture, hosted by the Canterbury History Foundation, will be delivered by UC historian Dr Chis Jones. He will look at Magna Carta and its continued relevance for New Zealand law and biculturalism 800 years after it was first issued. Afternoon tea will be provided.
Christchurch local Stevie Tonks is performing at Dux Live bar on Wednesday June 10. This is said to be a cracker night with over 600 people already signed up to the Facebook event.
Having narrowly missed a spot in the X Factor grand final, Stevie was a consistent favourite throughout the season. He was especially praised for his powerful ballad voice and incredible stage presence – exactly the kind of musician you want to see live!
The concert is R18, tickets are $15 + bf or $20 at the door – although it looks like this will be a sell-out event. Get your mates together and support HatBeard!
Last week a number of Student Volunteer Army (SVA) members took some old broken bikes that have been left on campus over the last few years to RAD bikes in the city and restored them!
It was a fantastic day, with many experienced and progressing bike repairer’s. One of the coolest parts is that the repaired bikes will be going to people whose bike’s have been stolen around campus – so watch this space! SVA have plenty more bikes to fix up so they are looking to continue this project over a few weekends. Keep an eye on the SVA Facebook page to see when the next bike restoration project is taking place!
