Volunteers needed for fair trade events

Fair Trade Fortnight is coming up from 6-22 May and the Sustainability Office could do with a little help.

We need assistance with:

  • preparing our world-famous delicious fair trade banana ice-creams on 16 or 17 May.
  • making and giving away fair trade banana ice creams, Wednesday 18 May, 11am-1pm! This is a super-duper feel-good task.
  • a fair trade tea-tasting event, Friday 20 May, 11am-1pm.

Even if you can help with just part of the time for any of these events, we’d love to hear from you.

Coming up: UC Eco Week 2015!

Winter in Christchurch can sometimes feel endless…But don’t despair…after the 21 June the days are getting longer and in September we present UC Eco Week to bring some (sustainable) sparkle back into your life!

Eco Week is a festival of sustainability-focused events, which celebrate and promote what you can do for the environment, your community and your life. Eco Week will run from 14-18 September and we’re currently working on bringing you inspiring, fun and educational events that will not only get you thinking but provide opportunities to Make A Difference, both in your own life and in the wider world.

Think: free Fair Trade icecreams, tiny house open home on campus, the grand climate kilometer parade, an OpSoc Ball, a thought provoking fashion doco (True Cost), make your own body products and fermenting workshops, op shopping at UC, and much much more. Keep in touch via our Facebook page and check our website regularly.

Volunteers have played an important role in past Eco Weeks, adding extra sparkle, interest and life to the week.

If you have a couple of hours on any of the days in Eco Week you’ll make a real difference in lots of different ways. Contact Katie Nimmo (katie.nimmo@canterbury.ac.nz) or on 364 2025 if you are keen.
