Are you looking over your results and wishing you had done better? It can feel overwhelming to do your assignments or exams. It can also be discouraging to receive feedback and marks that are not what you’re used to.
Remember that it takes time to learn how things work in a different academic environment. Using a second language can also put more stress on you and affect your performance.
The good news is you’re not alone, and there is support here at UC for you.
The Academic Skills Centre is located on the third floor of the Puaka-James Hight Library. It offers several resources to help you improve your academic results, including online resources.
If you need assistance with writing, check out the four-part Introduction to Essay Writing course. You can also book a consultation with a Learning Advisor to review your writing one on one.
If you want to practice your speaking and listening skills, come along to the Speaking and Listening for English Language Learners workshops.
For assistance dealing with cultural adjustment and transition, anxiety, worry, or stress, staff at the Student Care and UC Health Centre provide wonderful support.
It’s ok to ask for help, it’s part of being a successful student.

The Student Success Team
Are you a new international student to UC? Or are you an international student who has been here a while? Either way UC and the UCSA would love for you to come along and experience an evening just for you.
Come along to the Kiwiana quiz and catch-up for international students on Wednesday 21 March at 7.00pm, in the Engineering Core. There will be a Kiwiana and global themed quiz, refreshments provided and music. It is a great opportunity to meet your fellow international students.
Members of the UCSA and other clubs will be there to help out, introduce you to the Kiwi culture and answer any questions you might have! We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday for what will be an awesome night. Contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org or come by the UCSA office in the Undercroft if you have any questions, ideas or would like to get involved with all things international at UC.
Your International Rep,
If you would like to know more about the event, check it out and register here, we can’t wait to meet you!
My name is Alex and I am a fourth year student here at UC. I have just completed a degree in marketing and finance. This year I am about to start my Masters. I have loved my time at UC and have made sure that I make the most of all that UC offers.
This year I am your UCSA International Rep. In previous years the UCSA has not had an International Student Representative, so it is not only a new thing for me but the entire association. This means we are excited to get your feedback and insight into what you would like to see come from this new role. I look forward to hearing from students and giving it my all.
With an increased number of international students, there is a greater need to bring international representation to the forefront. We have got a lot in the pipeline for international students this year and are working hard to make sure that all international students enjoy their time here and make the most of all that UC and the UCSA offers. I am looking forward to bringing you new events and new initiatives, with the hope of keeping you involved and enjoying your time here at UC.
Orientation is now over, but I am excited to let you know that the events don’t just stop there. On Wednesday 21 March there is an International Students ‘Kiwiana quiz & catch up night’ – make sure you get a free ticket and get involved! The UCSA looks forward to meeting you and enjoying a fun evening with you.
If you have any questions or need any help, pop in and utilise the services that the UCSA offers. I would really appreciate hearing from you so feel free to email me on email@example.com or if you see me out and about don’t be afraid to say hi!
Look forward to seeing you at the quiz!
