Introductory NZ Sign Language course at Dovedale

An introductory course to New Zealand Sign Language will be held on Dovedale campus during August and September. This is a great opportunity for College of Education, Health and Human Development | Te Rāngai Ako me te Hauora students and staff to take part in the course.

The course covers finger-spelling alphabet and basic phrases, numbers, some university specific vocabulary and basic grammar.  No previous New Zealand Sign Language experience is required and the course is open to students and staff.  Handouts are provided and there is no structured homework though practicing signs between classes is encouraged to enhance your learning. 

Classes will be held on Monday 27 August and  3, 10, 17 and 24 September from 1.00pm – 2.00pm. The cost is $60.00.  A minimum of 12 attendees is needed for the course to start. Introductory Data Analysis Workshop Using R

The Statistical Consulting Unit is having another run of its popular ‘Data Analysis Using R’ workshops.

The workshops are free and primarily directed at postgraduate students and members of staff, who need to improve their data analytic skills.

The next Introductory Data Analysis Workshop will take place on Wed-Thu 18-19 July, 2018 (10am-4pm), and will cover fundamental statistical concepts, such as sampling distributions, hypothesis testing, p-values and confidence intervals, as well as introduce linear regression and analysis of variance (ANOVA). No prior knowledge of R is required.
