Summer movies at the Library

1Did you know the Library has an awesome range of movies and documentaries on DVD available to borrow?

Feature movies (Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Children’s Movies (WALL-E, The Hobbit), TV Series (Bro-town, Mad Men), NZ Classics and classics in the making (Magik + Rose, The Dark Horse), documentaries (Exit through the Gift Shop, Grey Gardens) and much more.

2Have a search on our website (you can browse by genre) or come and browse the shelves in the library (the biggest collection is on Level 2 of the Central Library, with more collections in the Education, EPS and MacMillan Brown Libraries).

Then mute the phones, make popcorn, sit back and relax 🙂

Review: The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron

No matter who wins or loses, trouble always comes around…
-Nick Fury

The latest Marvel blockbuster has arrived, The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. This time we get a lot more personal with the Avengers in the midst of an Earth-threatening event that challenges the team, bringing into question their philosophies, ethics and loyalty to each other.

The film cleverly questions the legitimacy of artificial intelligence in an increasingly technology-driven world, whilst tying in more relatable personal issues of love, friendship and belonging.

We discover some well kept secrets, including which Avenger has a spouse and kids, as well as a developing spark between two Avengers…

We also meet some new characters who bring skills and abilities un-matched by the Avengers’ talents. This all leads to a bittersweet end where we say goodbye to some (forever?) and look to the new future of the Avengers.

Overall, I’d rate the film a solid four out of five stars. It’s a really enjoyable watch that’s full of action and excitement but with a little bit of thinking involved too. It’s sure to satisfy all Marvel fans!

If you’re new to the Marvel franchise, I recommend you watch the main Marvel movies before jumping in with the latest installment. These are the kind of movies that assume you know the back story, but the good news is that Marvel movies are actually really cool so you should watch them!

One thing you need to know: always watch till the end of the credits as there’s always an added extra! You can Google the order you should watch them in, there are heaps of lists online, but I’d recommend you watch the main films, in this order:

1. Captain America: The First Avenger
2. Iron Man
3. The Incredible Hulk
4. Iron Man 2
5. Thor
6. The Avengers
7. Iron Man 3
8. Thor: The Dark World
9. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
10. The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron
