Emily Hartley-Skudder graduated from UC in 2013 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with first-class honours. Since graduating, Emily lived in Wellington for a while but ultimately decided to pursue her dream of being an artist in New York.

A year later, Emily lives in a tiny room in a Brooklyn apartment. She works as a waitress in a bar, but most importantly, she is making incredible art.

Emily says living as a struggling artist is teaching her endurance and she’s addicted to trying to make it work.

Watch the video to see Emily in her natural habitat – her studio – and hear about her experience as a Kiwi living in New York.
