Renewing your RecCentre membership

Are you hanging around Christchurch for summer? Did you know that your student membership at the RecCentre, in most cases, finishes on 1 March, 2020?   That means you can keep exercising at the RecCentre over the summer break.  It’s also fairly quiet at the gym during the summer months…how convenient!

Check your RecCentre account online for your expiry date

Head to our website, and  on the  left hand nav at the very top, you’ll find a link to ‘Account login’, or you can use this link. If you click through here, you’ll be able to login to your RecCentre account and check your personal expiry date, any bookings you’ve made with us and how many zone classes you’ve got left to use!

I’m studying again in 2020, when do I renew?

Once you’ve paid your 2020 student levy, you can sign up again from 1 February 2020.   The process is now automated, so if you haven’t paid your levy, your membership won’t be processed.     You can renew your membership through the same reccentre account login

I’m not studying at UC in 2020, can I join anyway?

You sure can!   We offer a range of rates to non-students, so check out our website for the options and see which category you fit into.  We offer discounts for alumni (graduates), other students and UC Staff.   You’ll need to purchase this at our counter though, as we don’t have online memberships for other membership types yet.

If you’re still a little confused, just stop by our reception and speak to one of our Customer Experience Representatives.  They’ll be able to talk you through how to keep your routine going without interruption and queues.

Summer Opening and Closing Days

We close for 2 weeks over the Christmas with the rest of the University.  Our last workout day is Sunday 22 December, closing at 9pm.   We reopen on Monday 6 January, 2020 at 6am.

STA Travel lands at UC – exclusive student deals

If you wondered what was going to pop up in the old copy shop in the Undercroft, all has been revealed this week with the grand opening of global student travel agency, STA Travel.

STA was started back in 1979 by two backpackers with long-haul jet lag and an idea to create affordable adventures for awesome humans. STA Travel has grown today to be the world’s leading student and youth travel company.

Get sweet student savings on flights, tours, day trips, accommodation, insurance and more, for trips overseas and around New Zealand. STA Travel can hook you up with all the basics and also specialises in cost-effective round the world flight combos, Contiki tours, working holidays, volunteering, festivals (hello Oktoberfest!), mid-semester breaks and grad trips.

The best bit?  Travel can be costly, but it doesn’t need to break the bank. STA Travel offers FLEXIpay where a $99 deposit is all you need to secure your flight price and then pay the rest off as you go or in one lump sum 10 weeks before travel.  No interest, no credit cards, no contracts and no catches, just $99 on a huge range of airlines taking you across the globe. There are also deposit options on accommodation and tours so that Bali New Year’s trip is closer than you think…

Come and see Emma and the team at the new STA Travel UC store, located in the Undercroft, or email the team on canterburyuni@statravel.com.  Ask about opening specials for your next overseas or domestic trip.

Here over summer? Tell us what you really think (and be in to win!)

If you’re sticking around over summer and have time to participate in a student focus group, we want to hear from you…

We’re seeking feedback about how UC communicates with students. We’d like to get an understanding of things like whether our messages are reaching you and grabbing your attention.

If you’d like to take part in the focus group please email Hannah Seeley – hannah.seeley@canterbury.ac.nz outlining when you will be available over summer and what details we can contact you on.

The focus group is expected to take around two hours and is open to all current UC students. All participants will go in the draw to win one of four $50 University Bookshop vouchers.
